The SUBU Insight Analyst plays a key role in delivering high quality data insights, dashboards and reports to inform decision making across SUBU. This role supports strategic planning and service improvement, informs student-driven work, and implements impact measurement by collecting, analysing, interpreting and presenting quantitative and qualitative data from a range of student engagement, feedback, and organisational sources. The role is also responsible for linking a variety of data sources to produce actionable insights.
Under the direction of the Head of Student Voice and Policy, this role supports SUBU's use and continuous development of its cross-organisational data, insights and dashboards to inform SUBU's strategic priorities and to demonstrate the organisation's impact. This includes liaising with data providers and SUBU staff to inform reporting requirements and ongoing developments, designing and implementing feedback mechanisms for projects, and producing routine feedback and insight reports for university committees. The role liaises with SUBU staff, officers, trustees, and where appropriate, university staff, to support their use of SUBU insights.
The role also, under the direction of the Student Voice and Insight Manager, supports student voice activities by analysing Student Rep and survey feedback and identifying trends in student engagement, experience and feedback (positive and negative). This includes working with elected officers and relevant SUBU and university staff to identify potential areas of focus as well as supporting staff and officers to understand and use data effectively.
Key Tasks
Administration Duties: email & diary management; producing and distributing routine and ad-hoc reports; booking meetings.
Communication Duties: between SUBU staff, Student Representatives, Executive Committee, Full-time Officers, Part-time Officers, University staff, external suppliers, and other external contacts. This includes delivering presentations based on data reports at SUBU and university meetings.
Organisational Duties: as directed by the Head of Student Voice and Policy, organising own SUBU-wide work to deliver dashboards effectively; supporting SUBU's projects to collect and report on student feedback, for example Speak Week; organising own work to produce routine and ad-hoc cross-organisational reports.
Data Duties: developing, maintaining and managing various SUBU-wide records, information systems and dashboards; summarising key points from complex information to support the process for briefing elected officers in advance of formal meetings.
Project Duties: providing support for SUBU's key feedback collection and data reporting projects. Analytical Duties: Analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, from SUBU-wide internal feedback mechanisms and from external mechanisms, as directed by the Head of Student Voice and Policy; producing summary reports from data analysis results; supporting SUBU to identify and report on student issues from data analysis results.
Key Union Events Duties: when asked to assist with the organisation and administration of the larger Union events such as Freshers' events, Summer Ball, SUBU Awards, SUBU Elections.
Compliance Duties: complying with governing documents and data protection legislation.
Representation/ Facilitation Duties: To represent SUBU at meetings, events as and when appropriate which may include occasional evening and weekend hours to be agreed with your line manager.
Advice and Guidance Duties: Supporting student, Union and Officer projects, campaigns, and events, including manifesto and ad hoc campaigns.
Research Duties: research into the student experience in the higher education sector as directed by the Head of Student Voice and Policy, and support the running of research projects, for example, focus groups.
Networking Duties: close cross-working with SUBU staff in relation to dashboard operation, elected officers, SUBU departments, BU staff, and external organisations. 11 Person Specification Experience with data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, Power BI, SPSS) Experience designing and delivering research or evaluation projects Excellent data analysis skills and experience (both qualitative and quantitative) Good report writing skills, including presenting data as charts/ tables Demonstrable working knowledge of online survey mechanisms, data collection and research methods Demonstrable working knowledge of linking data sources and developing data dashboards Ability to deal with a high volume of complex information Knowledge of the higher education / students' union sector is desirable Excellent attention to detail Effective administration with ability to deliver multiple tasks Diligent with high organisational ability Responsive to changing demands Excellent communication (verbal, written and delivering presentations) skills Ability to relate to and work with a diverse range of people Self-motivated Interested in research and its application
