Student Welfare Officer

Permanent contract, 37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year

Bath College is looking for a dedicated student welfare officer to join our team, providing essential support to vulnerable learners across both of our campuses.

This role is essential in supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy DSL, in fulfilling the College's statutory responsibilities to safeguard learners. The post holder will act as one of the welfare officers, serving as a first point of contact for safeguarding disclosures. They will ensure immediate and effective responses to any safeguarding concerns, contributing to the safety and wellbeing of students at the College.

Key Responsibilities


Provide welfare and safeguarding support to students, ensuring their wellbeing is at the forefront of all interactions. Offer professional advice on safeguarding and wellbeing matters, acting as a trusted source of guidance for both students and staff. Manage and prioritise a caseload of vulnerable learners, delivering timely interventions and support while meeting key deadlines. Take a lead role in one specific area of safeguarding, mental health, or wellbeing, providing specialist support to students in that field. Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners, including Social Services, Avon and Somerset Police, and mental health organisations, ensuring effective referral pathways. Maintain comprehensive records using IT systems, ensuring all safeguarding and wellbeing information is up to date and accessible.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


5 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English at grade C or above.


Demonstrate a good working knowledge of Microsoft office

Demonstrate a good working knowledge of safeguarding and mentoring

Demonstrate knowledge of support mechanisms, organisations and the support they offer e.g. housing and social services.


Demonstrate experience of successfully working with young people and adults in an advisory role, supporting them to identify goals and achieve their ambitions.

Demonstrate experience of working within a team, working flexibly with multiple partners both internal and external
