Job Description


The School of Nursing and Advanced Practice has been established to enhance the focus on undergraduate and postgraduate nursing and advanced multidisciplinary practice. Situated in the Faculty of Health, the School plays a key role in the development of the current and future health workforce. The educational portfolio is significant and increasing each year with various local, regional, and national programmes. The School plays a pivotal role in the regional nursing workforce development agenda and participates with multiple agencies to address current and potential challenges. The Faculty of Health strives to tackle health inequalities, social exclusion, and deprivation in local communities and beyond, through our undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, along with a growing programme of international partnerships and student opportunities. There is a developing culture of multidisciplinary research in the School which is poised for additional growth and funding.

We are seeking to appoint a Subject Head in Curriculum Development and Enhancement to provide academic leadership of the growing portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate education programmes with line management of academic staff engaged in teaching, research, and enterprise. You will inspire best practice, acting as a key leader and expert advisor in the design, development, and delivery of the School of Nursing and Advanced Practice portfolio of programmes. You will be able to demonstrate academic leadership of nurse education and curriculum developments with the ability to respond to workforce challenges, the external environment and policy in this area.

You will take a lead role in academic planning, curriculum review, and quality, contributing to learning, teaching, and assessment strategy. You will develop, apply, and promote innovative teaching techniques and contribute to teaching excellence across the School. Your role will ensure that the fields of nursing are prominent within our portfolio of programmes. Through engagement with external and internal academic governance activities, you will promote enhancement activity, good practice/ innovative ideas relating to curricula design, teaching, learning, assessment, and feedback. You will lead School of Nursing and Advanced Practice submissions for internal and external awards and recognition. Working with the Associate Deans, School Directors, Subject Heads, Professional Support colleagues and academic colleagues you will ensure the quality and efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with professional standards and regulations, University strategy, policy, and procedures.

You will have a strong profile in education, research and innovation whilst ensuring the student experience is central. Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree in Nursing and a PhD (or be actively working towards this).
