Subject Matter Expert – Torque Path And Systems (xhev)

Warwick, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Job Overview

PDSL is seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert to support the design and development of integrated propulsion systems, with a specific focus on torque path and energy management within electrified powertrain applications (MHEV, PHEV, Diesel, and Gasoline). This position will support logical and physical system development and deliver system-level artefacts to guide current and future propulsion architectures.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and own system artefacts for powertrain propulsion features and capabilities including requirements mapping, use case analysis, functional architecture, test case development, and failure analysis. Act as the subject matter expert for torque generation, transfer, and energy management across electrified powertrain platforms. Deliver robust system designs and requirements on time to support programme milestones. Analyse CAE and physical test data to support system validation. Ensure compliance with engineering methods and quality standards throughout the development lifecycle. Support and mentor team members and lead technical reviews to resolve cross-functional issues. Define and deliver experiments (DoE) and technical studies to confirm system targets and support innovation.

Key Skills and Experience

Essential:

Proven experience in a Systems Engineering environment, ideally in the automotive sector. Strong knowledge of torque and energy arbitration, including ICE, transmission, high-voltage electrification (MHEV/PHEV), and aftertreatment systems. Familiarity with system definition, architecture, requirements management, system integration and validation. Hands-on experience with MBSE tools and system architecting techniques. Ability to perform complex data analytics from CAE and physical testing. Experience in defining test cases for HIL, PIL, VIL, and vehicle environments. Practical knowledge of calibration and control strategies for propulsion systems, especially related to torque path and energy management. Strong command of analytical tools such as Matlab, INCA, Concerto, and Excel macros. Familiarity with product development frameworks (e.g. PCDS or Agile squads).

Desirable:

Expertise in emissions, gas path, EDU/inverter systems, and battery charging. Exposure to MagicDraw or TRM tools for systems modelling. Simulink CAE experience for propulsion systems.

Personal Attributes

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of conveying complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Results-driven, with a focus on timely delivery in complex and demanding environments. A collaborative team player with a proactive attitude and willingness to support others.
