Job Description

Rossall Summer School is an intensive language programme combined with general activities, specialised skills and cultural experiences. The senior programme is for ages 11-17.

The aim of our Summer School is to provide students with a high quality course in English and may be suitable as preparation for their subsequent entry into Rossall School or another British boarding school. Furthermore, the activities allow pupils to enjoy their summer and make new friends whilst learning English in a more relaxed environment.

Our Summer School is designed to appeal to boys and girls from all over the world, running throughout the summer holidays on our stunning coastal campus, where they have plenty of space to learn and explore.

Job Purpose:



To engage the students in enjoyable, fun and productive extra-curriculuar activities and excursions thereby contributing to an exciting all-round experience for the students each week. Activities staff also provide overnight cover on a rota basis.

Specific Responsibilities:



To be a positive and enthusiastic presence on campus, interacting with students and generally working to enhance their stay in the UK. To promote, organise, run and support all activities and events as well as encourage and motivate students to participate. To be involved in 2 hours of largely sports based activities each afternoon Monday to Friday. To be involved in a range of social activities each evening, Monday to Sunday (7.30pm - 9.30pm) on a rota basis. This may involve some off-site trips such as bowling and cinema visits. To do an overnight, sleep in, duty at least once a week. To accompany students on an excursion each Sunday on a rota basis. To provide supervision in the Dining Hall at tea and overnight in the Boarding House on a rota basis. Insist on acceptable standards of behaviour as expressed by the school rules and bring all cases of unacceptable behaviour to the attention of the Activities Leader. Participate in the programme of evening and weekend leisure activities. To escort groups on trips. Assist with Saturday arrivals and departures as requested by line manager. Dress appropriately and wear the school's polo shirt and / or fleece on excursions and airport transfers and when on duty and ensure the summer school staff do the same.

General:



To undertake other duties commensurate with the responsibility of Activities Staff. Insist that English is spoken in all public areas and encourage students to mix with people from different nationalities. To support with meal eating duties at tables with the students. To promote the value of progressing into Rossall School. Attend the induction days on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd July, and staff meetings during the period of employment as required.

The post-holder must adhere to and ensure compliance with the School's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post, the post-holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School, they must report those concerns to the DSL or to the Head immediately.

Essential Criteria



Have worked with children and / or overseas children before. Native or native level English speaker. Enthusiastic and positive about the role, and willing to set an example to all the Summer School activity staff. Ability to be resident at Rossall during the whole of Summer School. Excellent communication skills. Able to work both as an individual and part of a team. Good sense of humour. Energetic and quick to learn. Computer literate.

Desirable Criteria



First aid qualification. Be able to drive a mini bus and willing to undertake the school MIDAS test. Have one's own car available.
Essential requirements are those without which an applicant may not normally be considered for appointment.

Accommodation on site and meals in the Dining Hall are included in the salary.
