Role Summary



We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Superintendent Pharmacist who is also an independent prescriber. This is a pivotal dual-role, combining the statutory responsibilities of the Superintendent Pharmacist with hands-on clinical prescribing for our weight loss patients.

Key Responsibilities



1. Superintendent Pharmacist Duties (Governance & Leadership):

Ensuring the pharmacies legal compliance with the Medicines act 1968 and the GPhC standards for registered online pharmacies. Continue to develop, implement, and maintain robust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all aspects of the service. Ensure the safe and secure handling, storage, and supply of all medicines, particularly POMs used in weight management. Support clinical lead with prescribing audits, including incident reporting, risk management, and quality improvement. Be the named contact for the GPhC and other regulatory bodies, ensuring all notifications are made promptly and accurately. Oversee and mentor the pharmacy team, ensuring their competence and ongoing professional development.
2. Independent Prescriber Duties (Clinical Practice):

Conduct remote consultations with new and existing patients to assess their suitability for weight loss therapy. Perform thorough clinical assessments, review medical histories, and interpret relevant health data. Make informed, evidence-based decisions to initiate, adjust, or discontinue treatment in line with company protocols and national guidelines. Prescribe appropriate POM medications safely and responsibly. Provide personalised lifestyle, diet, and behavioural advice to support patients' long-term goals. Monitor patient progress, manage any side effects, and ensure ongoing safety and efficacy of treatment. Recognise and act upon red flags, knowing when to refer patients back to their GP or other specialist services.
3. Strategic & Operational Duties:

Work closely with the clinical and operations lead to shape the clinical strategy and service development. Stay abreast of the latest evidence, emerging treatments, and regulatory changes in the field of obesity medicine.

Person Specification



Essential Qualifications & Experience:

Master of Pharmacy (MPharm). Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Qualified as an Independent Prescriber (IP). Significant post-registration experience, including experience in a Superintendent Pharmacist role or as a deputy ready to step up. Proven experience in a clinical setting, such as primary care, community pharmacy (with a clinical services focus), or a similar digital health/online pharmacy. Demonstrable experience in prescribing and managing long-term conditions (experience in weight management, diabetes, or cardiometabolic health is highly desirable). In-depth knowledge of UK pharmacy law, ethics, and clinical governance. Excellent clinical assessment and consultation skills, with the ability to build rapport remotely.

Resilience: Ability to work under pressure and manage the unique challenges of a digital healthcare environment.
Desirable Criteria:

Previous experience in a digital health/telemedicine company. Specific experience in prescribing for weight management. Additional qualifications or significant CPD in obesity management, diabetes, or cardiology.
