- Support and Development Worker (Level 3) -
27,462.00 (14.67 per hour)
Hours of Work:
36 hours - 3 x 12 hour shifts a week
Shift working to include evening, nights, weekends and public holidays
Main Purpose of the Role:
Build positive relationships with young people/parents and provide support, reassurance and deliver activities that enhance emotional wellbeing and help service users to develop skills to progress through the service.
Maintain the safety and security of young people, accommodation and resources and providing a 'first response' in dealing with out of hours emergencies and concerns.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Spend time with young people to build respectful relationships involving them in activities that interest them.
Provide support and reassurance and promote independence.
Ensure YP are aware, understand and can follow rules and health and safety requirements.
Contribute to the development, review and implementation of support plans, ensuring YP are seen regularly and required actions are completed within agreed timescales.
Provide key work to designated YP, holding a small caseload
Develop and deliver targeted activities with YP, including helping them to engage with voice and influence work
To proactively work with the Management team to develop and deliver alternative ways of supporting a young person where more regular means of support has failed or is likely to fail.
Supervise and offer support to staff through line management processes.
Engage regularly in group reflective practice.
Level 3 Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:
In the absence of any other senior member of staff, must be able to oversee the shift, taking on the leadership role to make decisions, liaise with all relevant parties and external professionals
Lead on the development, review and implementation of support plans, ensuring YP are seen regularly and required actions are completed within agreed timescales
Provide key work to designated YP who may have a history of complex needs, risk taking and dysregulated behaviours
Contribute to the issuing of warnings and notices, and the implementation of behavioural contracts
Please Note: These tasks and responsibilities will vary dependent on the job level
Health, Safety and Security
Contribute to dynamic risk assessment, raising concerns appropriately with colleagues and senior mangers
Undertake health and Safety checks/routine checks on fire and other emergency systems and maintain records.
Maintain a visible presence in and around the premises and monitor and regulate access to the building/s as necessary
Ensure all rooms can be accessed by residents and replacement keys/fobs are be provided where necessary
Respond to emergency, crisis and challenging situations; prioritising safety and deescalating volatile and aggressive behaviours appropriately.
Escalate issues relating to the safety and wellbeing of service users in accordance with New Roots policy.
Carrying out minor repairs e.g. changing light bulbs
Report breaches of security and damage to the fabric/fittings of the building in line with New Roots guidance
Keep communal areas and offices clean
Organisation and administration
Maintain electronic records and files, in accordance with New Roots Policy and the requirements of GDPR
To be aware of and comply with all New Roots policies and procedures
To work as part of the wider team to ensure the Mission and Vision of New Roots are meet
Actively participate and respond to support, supervision, team and organisation meeting, training and development opportunities (which may take place before or after normal shift patterns)
You will be required to use your own vehicle for which New Roots will pay appropriate allowances. You will also be on a rota to drive the company vehicle and work as the designated peripatetic staff member on shift.
Any other duties consistent with the requirements of the post as requested by the Senior Management Team.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience of working with people in a frontline or customer facing service e.g. supported or care services, retail, security or service industry etc.
Friendly, caring and approachable personality
Ability to listen and communicate
Not phased by responding to difficult behaviour
Commitment to helping to improve the lives of children and young people
Commitment to providing a caring and supported environment for young people
Access to a vehicle and the ability to drive
