Job Description

The overall aim of this post is to enable people with care and support needs to live in ordinary housing and to achieve as independent a lifestyle as possible. The Senior Support Worker will provide daily guidance and help to other staff and provide day to day support for the people receiving our services.

General Responsibilities



To assist all Raynsford Care staff in maintaining good relationships with other collaborative agencies and the public, in order to promote the work of the organisation and foster increased awareness and support for its work.

To ensure that your attitude and behaviour remains professional and consistent with the expectations of Raynsford Care. Ensuring this is positive, motivating and supportive to staff and individuals we support

Main Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Senior Support Worker will include:

Daily care and support of service users

Administrative duties

Finances associated with the home

Domestic management within the home

Staff supervision

Management of the Rota and supporting other seniors in ensuring the support hours required are provided

On-call duties

General Duties

To establish a professional relationship with service user whilst respecting their personal dignity and individual rights.

To provide an overall service of support, advice and education to service users in such a way as to develop their potential for maximum independence.

To provide support and leadership to the staff team and to encourage the development of new ideas and approaches formulated by the staff team.

To ensure that Fire, Health and Safety, Confidentiality and other standards as detailed the Policies and Procedures.

To be conversant with current legislation and changes which may affect the provision of support.

Management Team Duties

As part of the senior support worker team, you will support the Manager/s, deputising for the

Deputy Service Manager as and when required, and providing advice and guidance to team

members when required including out of hours support via the on-call rota.

To ensure that the duties of all members of staff are carried out correctly, and to undertake delegated supervision and support of other staff in line with the policies of Raynsford Care.

To attend and contribute to regular team meetings and assist in the development of the

philosophy, mission statement and core values of Raynsfords, you will also assist in the design of service policy, strategy and future planning as required.

To attend and actively participate in any staff or service user meetings and training sessions as required and respond appropriately to any issues that arise.

To attend regular support, supervision and appraisal meetings with your line manager.

To attend training programmes as required, and to identify the training needs of staff.

To assist in developing a positive team, committed to appropriately supporting service users and Raynsford, identifying and allocating tasks within the team on a daily basis.

To monitor and ensure the correct administration of medication and to ensure the safe and legal storage, supervision and handling of medication.

To ensure that all records are completed fully and accurately supporting staff members to learn the processes of this.

To be flexible with regard to working hours and to be prepared to work unsocial hours.

To cover Support Worker duties as required.

Responsibilities to Service Users



To assist service users in the acquisition and development of personal and social skills.

To contribute to and assist tenants/service users in the process of defining and identifying their needs, ensuring that service users have opportunities to develop new skills and retain old ones. Liaise with other involved individuals in pursuance of these goals.

To assist service users to participate as actively as possible in devising action plans, encouraging and supporting them in the exercise of personal choice, both in daily living and in decisions about their individual futures.

To support service users in accessing leisure and recreational activities of their

choice. To support service user's residents on health appointments.

To provide support and assistance appropriate to the ability of the service user in the management of their personal income.

To monitor service users' health, to the level expected of an untrained person. To give basic first aid if required.

To ensure that each service user is provided with an adequate diet or to support the person with an adequate diet.

To offer/provide support to service users with domestic duties. This may include

washing, ironing, preparing and cooking a meal, general cleaning.

To ensure individuals are treated with respect at all times.

To ensure Service users are supported emotionally in times of distress and their needs are met.

Administration

To maintain accurate and adequate records including those relating to

Care/Support Packages

Staff

Health and safety checks

Providing written reports where required and ensuring that these records are available for inspection.

Delegating administrative tasks throughout the shift, supporting staff to ensure all requirements are completed on time.

Other Duties



Duties will be subject to review and may be amended according to the needs of the developing service. Following discussion, the Senior Support Worker may be required to take on other duties as may be deemed necessary by the Management Team.

Recent experience of working with people with a disability preferably in a care setting (2 years experience).

Experience of supervising and supporting staff.

Ability to work unsociable hours including weekends sleep in duties, and bank holidays

The ability & willingness to travel within the area.

To participate in the on call rota system and ensure service users support hours are met

Use of own transport.
