We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and motivated
Support Worker
to join our dedicated team in a
Children's Residential Home
. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting children and young people with their daily needs, emotional well-being, and personal development. You will help create a safe, nurturing, and stable environment where each child feels valued, listened to, and empowered. Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day care and emotional support to children and young people in line with their individual care plans.
Assist with routines including morning and evening activities, personal hygiene, meals, and bedtime.
Promote independence by encouraging children to develop life skills, confidence, and positive behaviour.
Build trusting, supportive relationships with young people while maintaining professional boundaries.
Support children with education, including homework and school attendance, and liaise with schools when required.
Implement behaviour management strategies in accordance with the home's policies and therapeutic approaches.
Accurately record observations, incidents, and daily activities using care management or electronic recording systems.
Support children with emotional or behavioural needs, including trauma, attachment difficulties, or developmental challenges.
Participate in recreational activities, outings, and community engagement to promote social development.
Maintain a clean, safe, and nurturing home environment, contributing to housekeeping tasks where necessary.
Administer medications safely according to policies and training provided.
Work collaboratively with social workers, therapists, healthcare professionals, and families to support each child's holistic development.
Attend regular team meetings, supervision sessions, and mandatory training to ensure best practice and compliance.
Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and follow child protection procedures at all times.
Provide consistent care during challenging situations using de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed approaches.
Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with children or young people in residential care, education, youth work, or similar settings.
Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and relevant childcare legislation.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care, attachment theory, and behaviour management strategies.
Ability to remain calm, patient, and empathetic in challenging or emotional situations.
Strong communication and active listening skills to build positive relationships with young people and colleagues.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries while offering genuine care and support.
Confidence in using electronic recording systems for documentation and reporting.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when needed.
Willingness to participate in activities, outings, and therapeutic programmes with young people.
Basic first aid knowledge and commitment to ongoing training (training can be provided).
A valid driver's licence is desirable but not essential.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: 13.00-14.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 - 50 per week
