Overall purpose of the job
The Support Worker undertakes a wide range of tasks and responsibilities in accordance with the requirements of the community and the companions. You will play a key part in securing the welfare and wellbeing of our companions, from when they join our community to when they move on. You will be responsible for providing the emotional and practical support necessary to enable our companions to manage their accommodation, play an active part in the community and make a useful contribution to the social enterprise activities. You will also facilitate companions' access to specialist support or training and development, and support them in overcoming any underlying issues that may prevent their personal development. Through regular review sessions, you will develop individual support plans to meet companions' goals and aspirations. This role will support and assist the Head of Operations & Accommodation with the effective management and day-to-day activity of Emmaus Merseyside.
Duties & Responsibilities
Companion Welfare and Wellbeing
To assist in the assessment of potential companions: to assess referrals, conduct
interviews, and carry out induction
Build supportive and professional relationships with companions
Support companions in their daily work activities through mentoring and coaching within the
Social Enterprise outlets
Assist with the preparation, management, and regular review of individual Personal
Development Plans for each companion
To conduct regular support meetings with companions to monitor progress, stimulate action
and to be aware of their emotional and physical wellbeing
Undertake risk assessments identifying and mitigating any risks in conjunction with the
Head of Operations & Accommodation
Ensure that companion needs assessments are accurately completed and acted upon
Identify and signpost companions to specialist services where appropriate and support
companions throughout this process
Facilitate and co-ordinate with external agencies in relation to companion health, housing
benefit, support and training
Help to organise training and work opportunities for companions
Maintain community discipline
Conduct companion meetings
Facilitate extracurricular activities to benefit the community.
Accommodation
Ensure that communal and public areas are well maintained and in good functional condition.
Carry out Health and Safety checks and assessments
Conduct room inspections as appropriate
Get rooms ready for new companion move ins, and inspect when people move out.
Administration
Maintain and contribute to detailed companion files having due regard for confidentiality and
GDPR
Complete all necessary documentation including regulatory documentation and licence
agreements
Ensure all Emmaus Merseyside policies and procedures are always adhered to
Adhere to cash procedures for the distribution and control of companion allowances and petty
cash
Conduct/Attend Companion meetings.
Other Responsibilities
Participate in a staff on call rota
Work flexibly and cover for colleagues as and when required
Attend meetings and contribute to the overall Community strategy
Promote the development of Solidarity action within and from the community
Cultivate external relationships with support and development agencies
Perform any other tasks or duties commensurate with your role
To manage the community kitchen - Menu Creation, Food ordering within budget, and
support to make sure companion meals are varied & consistent
Any other request deemed necessary by management.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: 18,345.60 per year
Expected hours: 28 per week
