JOB TITLE: Tenant Support Worker / Housing Concierge
About Us
We are a charity based in Hexham Northumberland providing supported short-term accommodation for homeless adults. We not only provide accommodation but also support to help residents address those support needs that led, or contributed to, homelessness. By providing or facilitating activities and training programmes we help people begin the steps needed to re-build their life. We recognise that to have a home is not just about having a roof over one's head but is a place to feel safe and secure with a sense of stability and 'belonging'. By providing a high standard of accommodation and individual support to each person, we aim to begin the process of building that self-esteem and providing a feeling of security from the moment an individual enters our service.
The Role
The challenges are many for the people we support, from tackling addiction to learning basic living skills; from finding employment to getting a home of their own. As a Tenant Support Worker, your role is key in helping an individual achieve their goals.
You may need to help in the learning of day to day living skills such as budgeting or basic cooking or facilitate access to external training and educational opportunities. Assist in securing support to address health needs, be it a GP appointment or help with alcohol or substance misuse. You will help in applying for appropriate benefits, with housing applications and applying for job opportunities. In short you will help each person address their individual support needs, begin the process of moving towards employment, a home of their own, successful independent living and participation in their community as fully as they wish and are able.
The accommodation service is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you will also provide an on-site presence during evening, night and early morning hours. This is to ensure the safety and security of the building and occupants.
