We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Supported Living Support Workers to assist young people between the ages of 16-21 with varying needs in a shared house setting. The successful candidate will play a vital role in promoting community, providing personalised care, and supporting young people to be independent with daily activities such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, education, employment, money management and socialising. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people from different walks of life through attentive, person-centred and respectful support.
Duties
Assist young people with daily living activities such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, employment, education and learning.
Support individuals with assessing danger, being self-aware and ensuring their own safety and wellbeing when out in the community.
Provide specialised and sensitive care for young people who may have had difficult upbringings
Manage behaviour effectively, implement behaviour management strategies and encourage positive behaviour
Escort young people to appointments, meetings or social activities as required, maintaining safe boundaries and promoting their independence and autonomy
Be observant and report any health or safeguarding concerns to medical professionals, healthcare professionals and/or social services professionals promptly
Assist with light housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe environment
Support clients to be independent during outings or community activities to promote social inclusion and danger awareness when out in the community
Administer first aid if necessary and respond appropriately to emergencies by informing relevant emergency services - Training will need to be completed before start of employment
Maintain a positive and restorative attitude towards young people and their livelihood
Assist in creating support plans for young people, writing risk assessments, conducting monthly meetings and communicating effectively with professionals such as Social Workers, Personal Advisors, Independent Reviewing Officers, Youth Justice Workers and inter-agency teams involved in the care of a young person
Have knowledge in the areas of Safeguarding Children and Safeguarding Adults
Experience
Previous experience in care or support work is highly desirable
Knowledge of young people, ADHD or mental health support is advantageous
Experience in working with vulnerable individuals is preferred
Familiarity with lifting techniques and safe manual handling procedures
Childcare experience or working with Unnacompanied Asylum Seeking Children is a plus
Certification in first aid or relevant health and safety training is beneficial
This position requires a caring attitude, patience, good organisational skills, good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Applicants must demonstrate a genuine commitment to supporting young people in gaining their independence into adulthood and improving their quality of life.
