SEN Support Pre-School Assistant (Part-Time)



Hours:

25 hours per week

Monday & Thursday: 7:30am - 12:30pm Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday: 8:00am - 1:00pm

Job Purpose



The SEN Support Pre-School Assistant will provide targeted and inclusive support to children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring they can access play and learning opportunities, develop independence and communication, and thrive within the pre-school environment. The role includes supporting the SENCo with the delivery of activities linked to individual Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) objectives, setting up invitations to play, and implementing agreed behaviour and support strategies.

Key Responsibilities



Support children with identified SEN on a 1:1 or small-group basis in line with individual support plans (IEPs/EHCPs). Work collaboratively with the SENCo, key persons and wider staff team to deliver agreed interventions and strategies. Promote inclusion, positive behaviour and social-emotional development. Help set up activities and equipment on Mondays and Thursdays. Observe, record and contribute to assessments of children's progress and development. Adapt activities and resources to meet individual needs and access to learning. Support personal care needs in line with safeguarding, dignity and wellbeing procedures. Communicate effectively with parents/carers and external professionals as directed by the SENCo. Follow SEN and behaviour plans consistently, seeking clarification where needed. Attend relevant training as directed. Maintain a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment. Uphold all policies including safeguarding, confidentiality, health & safety and data protection.

Essential Skills & Qualities



Experience supporting children with SEN (desirable but not essential). A caring, patient and inclusive approach. Ability to follow guidance and work as part of a wider team. Strong communication, observation and record-keeping skills. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children.

Qualifications



Level 2 or 3 Early Years qualification desirable (or willingness to work towards). SEN-related training or experience advantageous.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: 12.71 per hour

Expected hours: 25 per week
