Elanic Hospital offers a new private hospital service for Glasgow City Centre and Central Scotland. Situated on Bath Street, the hospital is the expansion of the successful Elanic Clinic which has been undertaking day-surgery since 2013.
The hospital adds two new operating theatres to Elanic's facilities, one of which,an Ultra-Clean laminar flow theatre, capable of joint surgery, and means a total of three operating theatres within the Elanic facilities. In addition to the operating theatre capacity, the hospital adds; five inpatient bedrooms, one of which offers high dependency functionality; a daycase surgery recovery suite; and consulting space.
Elanic Hospital will build on the high quality and high patient satisfaction reputation of Elanic Clinic who achieved a 'Good' rating from Healthcare Improvement Scotland in June 2024 and has exceptionally low infection rates.
The hospital offers treatments/procedures in multiple specialties including; Orthopaedic, General, Bariatrics, Plastics/Cosmetics, ENT, Gynaecology, and more.
Overview of Position:
The Surgical First Assistant plays a vital role in the operating room by providing direct support to the surgeon during surgical procedures. Under the supervision of the surgeon, the First Assistant is responsible for performing tasks that assist in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative functions that help ensure optimal surgical outcomes. The role requires a high level of technical skill, clinical judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
These duties will also include the preparation of, clearing and cleaning of the theatres in accordance with the daily operating lists requirements and the cleaning and preparation theatre equipment and instruments used for surgical procedures.
Personal Attributes & Skills
Essential:
RGN/NMC/HCPC qualified with current registration and PIN.
Experience in Theatres with a minimum of two years post qualification experience.
A strong focus on customer care.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Completion of an accredited Surgical First Assistant program or equivalent training.
Certification as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), or Physician Assistant (PA) with surgical assisting experience.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
1-3 years of experience in a surgical assisting role preferred.
Strong understanding of surgical anatomy, procedures, and aseptic technique.
Excellent hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure

Key Responsibilities and Duties
Assist the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures.
Provide exposure through appropriate use of retractors, suctioning, and sponging.
Control bleeding using cautery, ligatures, and other techniques.
Handle tissue and suture wounds with precision and care.
Apply dressings and assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping.
Assist with post-operative care and transport as needed.
Maintain a sterile field and ensure all surgical instruments are properly used and accounted for.
Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anaesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team.
Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and infection control standards
Salary - 42,000
