will play a vital role within the Estates and Facilities team at Cambridge City Council. This position ensures that all construction, maintenance, and refurbishment projects meet the required quality, safety, and contractual standards. The role involves overseeing contractors' work on-site, managing projects from inception to completion, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
You will act as the council's representative on construction projects, providing technical expertise and ensuring that works are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect and monitor construction works to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and building regulations.
Oversee contractors and consultants, ensuring that all works meet quality and safety standards.
Conduct site visits and inspections, including access to roofs, confined spaces, and high areas using ladders and other means.
Manage and coordinate repair, maintenance, and refurbishment projects across council properties.
Ensure full compliance with
Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM)
and other statutory requirements.
Prepare and maintain accurate site reports, progress updates, and inspection records.
Manage contracts, variations, and performance monitoring of contractors and suppliers.
Liaise with internal departments, external consultants, and residents to resolve issues efficiently.
Provide technical advice on building maintenance, defects, and remedial solutions.

RICS Valuation Standards

Support the Estates and Facilities team with planning, budgeting, and project management activities.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Higher BTEC Certificate in Building Studies
or equivalent qualification in building surveying or construction.
Strong understanding of building construction techniques, materials, and processes.
Experience in
contract management
and
project delivery
within the public or housing sector.
Working knowledge of
RICS Valuation Standards
and
Building Regulations
.
Ability to identify and resolve technical or structural issues on-site.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with contractors, stakeholders, and the public.
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
Physically capable of conducting site inspections (including climbing ladders and accessing confined spaces).
A
valid UK driving licence
is required.
