Job Description

Sustainability Business Partner

Ringway Jacobs

Chelmsford, Essex

Full Time

Drawing upon expertise from global partners to complement our own extensive resources and capabilities, we design, create, and maintain world-class, safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly highway infrastructure for local authorities. Our model is based on service ownership and local employment, resulting in 'right first time' service delivery.

As a market leader in the provision of integrated highway services, we combine the latest technology and ideas with our core values of integrity, collaboration, and excellence. We embrace innovation, diversity, and agility--continually developing our business and the services we provide in pursuit of a truly sustainable future.

To further develop and implement our ambitious carbon and environmental sustainability strategy, we are looking for a Sustainability Business Partner.

The purpose of this role is to drive a meaningful step change in the carbon and environmental culture, capability, and performance of Ringway Jacobs, helping to build a culture focused on continuous improvement and best practice.

This stand-alone role sits within our Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality team and will support all areas of the business, as well as our clients, by providing specialist advice and guidance. A collaborative approach is essential, as you will facilitate cross-functional engagement with our senior team on strategy development and implementation, while also working closely with our wider teams and client organisations to agree on and embed change.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement effective carbon reduction strategies aligned with our business plan and client objectives. Ensure environmental compliance and controls in accordance with ISO 14001, PAS 2080, and industry best practice. Proactively identify and apply sustainability best practices (e.g. carbon accounting, biodiversity, circular economy, social impact). Serve as the primary point of contact for the Environment Agency, other regulatory bodies, and external auditors as required. Review and approve monthly environmental reports and investigations; support audits/inspections and develop action plans for continuous improvement. Create and deliver training and educational materials on carbon, environmental, and sustainability responsibilities. Act as a trusted adviser on sustainability and environmental matters, including compliance with environmental consents and permits. Collaborate with communications teams to develop internal and external content promoting sustainability, including reports, case studies, blogs, and web content. Represent the company at industry events, contributing thought-provoking and engaging content.

About You

Degree-level qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related subject, or equivalent experience with environmental management/sustainability frameworks. Proven experience with carbon data collection, analysis, and reporting. Self-motivated and passionate about carbon reduction, sustainability, and environmental issues. Audit qualifications and experience with ISO 14001 and PAS 2080 management systems (highly desirable). Experience delivering a carbon reduction or sustainability strategy in a similar business environment (desirable). Skilled at prioritising and managing workload, with the agility to adapt in a fast-paced environment. Willing to travel to meet business needs.
