You will support the finance department and the wider business by managing and optimizing our finance systems and tools, ensuring data quality and accuracy, and collaborating with other teams. You will also assist the Financial Controller and provide cover for the financial reporting team when needed.

Job description


The Systems Accountant will report directly to Financial Controller. In this role you will be responsible for the following;
  • Working in collaboration with the financial accountant and financial controller to maintain accuracy of the Chart of Accounts, analysis, and reporting structure within the Finance and associated systems.
  • Lead on systems integrations and refinements across the MaPS Finance Department, actively seeking out ways to leverage existing technology to optimise delivery.
  • Identify and scope potential new technology investments that drive the continuous improvement agenda across the team.
  • Undertake feasibility assessments for new technology investments, crystallising the benefits proposition and pitching proposals to the financial controller for approval.
  • Lead process improvement reviews to identify areas of waste, duplication, and manual intervention; devise ways of addressing issues identified to embed high performance.
  • Act as data owner for all information held within MaPS corporate finance systems; working in conjunction with other members of Finance SLT to ensure configuration is understood and optimised.
  • Assist the Finance department in automating the manual tasks by utilising appropriate tools and technologies.
  • Designing and implementing internal controls to provide quality assurance over financial data.
  • Assist the Finance department in identifying inefficiencies, duplication, and waste.
  • Provide support to the financial controller in ensuring that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are in place and up to date for your area.
  • Providing training to Finance team and non-finance staff and budget holders to perform their role effectively utilising available finance systems and other technology and tools.
  • Supporting the Financial Services team to deliver a variety of projects, including but not limited to, systems, internal controls, taxation, and financial management.
  • Ensure that there are clear succession plans in place with associated CPD plans for all staff within reporting line.
  • Support the Director of Finance as required in the delivery of a best-in-class financial service.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis and insights on specific issues.
  • Foster a culture of finance excellence by role modelling MaPS values.
  • Collaborating with IT and financial staff to meet business requirements.

Person specification


You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience;
  • Part qualified/Qualified Accountant (CCAB or CIMA or foreign equivalent)
  • A comprehensive understanding of the financial and management reporting experience.
  • Highly IT literate including experience and knowledge of finance systems, Excel advanced user and ability to use business and develop business analysis and intelligence tools.
  • Proven financial systems operation and development experience at a day-to-day and strategic level, including managing systems change in a large and complex organisation.
  • Proven experience in financial accounting and reporting including the preparation of financial statements, with the ability to demonstrate a good understanding of the outputs from financial systems to meet accounting and audit requirements.
  • Strong experience in improving and maintaining financial data and ensuring data integrity.
  • Proven experience of operational and project management with ability to work effectively and meet deadlines in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrates the Leadership and Management Standard.
  • Systems development and finance systems experience.
  • Broad experience and knowledge of accounting systems.
  • Experience working in project and BAU environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in communicating and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate and train other finance staff.
  • Advanced computer software skills, including Excel, Power BI, and data manipulation.
