Systems Engineer - Modelling and Simulation

Bristol (hybrid working, 2 days on site)

\xc2\xa355 to \xc2\xa380 per hour (umbrella, inside IR35)

Must have live, transferable SC clearance (i.e. in use in the last 12 months)

Occasional visits to client sites (expenses reclaimable in line with Babcock policy).

Babcock have been awarded the contract to manage and operate Skynet, the UK Ministry of Defence\'s (MOD) military satellite communications system. This six-year contract, which has an initial value of more than \xc2\xa3400 million, forms part of the MOD\'s \xc2\xa36 billion Skynet 6 programme and will enable Babcock to sustain more than 400 jobs in the south-west of the UK.

Skynet Service Delivery Wrap (SDW) will encompass the operation of the UK\'s constellation of military satellites and ground stations, including the integration of terminals into the MOD network, ensuring they are integrated and supported.

Skynet has been in service since the 1960s - with the first satellite of the sixth Skynet generation satellite, Skynet 6A, set to be launched in 2025. The contract includes the services necessary to support the current Skynet infrastructure, as well as the successful transition and continuous delivery of service for future Skynet operations.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities include:

  • Modelling and simulation design, implementation, test, reviews, and preparation of supporting documentation
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of architecture models and digital twins
  • Application of modelling and simulation to system and service operations and assurance.
  • Proactive in your approach combined with the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment with new and exciting challenges each day.
Required Experience /Qualification /Attributes:
  • Degree or equivalent in Telecommunications, Physics, Computer Science, or related discipline
  • Experience leading the design, implementation, and delivery of simulation environments
  • Experience developing one or more of: network communication models, satellite dynamic models, or radiofrequency (RF) models using industry tools e.g. System Tool Kit (STK), QualNet, Exata, Cisco Modelling Labs (CML), Graphical Network Simulator (GSN), Sparx Enterprise Architect.
  • Experience in the defence or telecommunication industry, ideally MILSATCOM but not essential.
