Thales Integrated Airspace-protection Systems (IAS) UK designs and manufactures a range of cutting-edge technologies ranging from air surveillance and mission planning systems to missile and space propulsion systems. With sites in Belfast, Templecombe, Crossgar and Thorney Island the company specialises in systems that manage and exploit critical mission planning and air surveillance data and also in short range air defence products. As a Systems Engineer, you will be designing state-of-the-art Defence Systems that deliver world-class performance to meet our customer\xe2\x80\x99s needs. Working within an agile multi-discipline team, responsibilities cover the whole product lifecycle from requirements capture and analysis through to defining the system architecture and behaviour and onto building, testing and verifying that the solution meets the customer\xe2\x80\x99s requirements. The role requires working with the team to optimise the design through trades, studies, analyses, modelling and simulation to produce a best-in-class competitive product. Principal Relationships:

  • Working within an integrated project team including system architects, other system design engineers, software and hardware engineers to define the system.
  • Reporting to the System Design Team Lead and Project Engineering Manager
  • Interacting with UK and international customers, end-users, industrial partners and suppliers
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • The role will require participation in one or more of the following System design activities:
  • Understand our customer and business needs leading to requirements capture, development and management.
  • Understand how the User will deploy the product in order to inform the system design.
  • Support the System Architect in defining the system architecture and developing sub-system and component requirements.
  • Develop and optimise the design through system trades, analyses, simulations and prototyping
  • Defining, planning, and participation in verification activities and trials to ensure the delivered product meets the customer requirements.
  • Capturing the design, decisions and rationale in associated specifications and other technical artefacts.
Skills & Qualifications required Essential
  • Bachelor Degree (BEng, BSc) in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking & decision making skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving and innovation skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to deliver projects, overcome barriers and make things happen
  • Team working skills
Desirable
  • Post-Graduate degree in an engineering discipline
  • High degree of technical expertise, problem solving skills, innovation and commitment
  • Ability to demonstrate working within a team under pressure
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional accreditation
