System Support and Development Officer



Salary: 35,412 to 38,220



Location: Strategy & Intelligence Department, Service Headquarters

Responsible to: Performance and Assurance Manager

Salary: Grade 7 35,412 to 38,220

Hours: 37 hours per week (flexible working scheme available)

About the Role:



An exciting opportunity has opened up within the Strategy and Intelligence Department for a System Support and Development Officer. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting the ongoing implementation and development of Software Products for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Working as part of a dedicated team and reporting to the Performance and Assurance Manager, you will be responsible for various aspects, including the development of new functionality, maintenance of existing core software products, liaison with software providers, and providing support and training to users. This is a technical role with a focus on managing, maintaining, and improving Service systems that provide critical information within Staffordshire.

Key Duties:



Lead the development, configuration, testing, implementation, and user training for Service information systems.

Become a subject matter expert, understanding both front-end and back-end configurations, and provide solutions to business objectives.

Manage requests raised by users, by resolving errors and addressing enhancement requests.

Identify enhancements and improvements, working with software providers to influence system development.

Lead meetings with internal stakeholders, facilitating discussions on new functionality integration.

Ensure development and system changes are completed within agreed timescales.

Liaise with software providers, chairing regular meetings to discuss issues and enhancements.

Independently organise ad-hoc meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

Develop and report on data contained within Service information systems.

Undertake robust development and simulated user testing for new functionality.

Schedule system upgrades and provide communications to the wider Service.

Create and manage user accounts and associated system permission profiles.

Ensure awareness of service policies, business processes, and Data Protection legislation in all development work.

Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.

Additional Information:



The successful candidate may be required to work flexible hours and travel to different service locations, including Shared Fire Control and occasional travel outside the Service to meet with software providers.

Education and Training:



Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in software development or similar.

Significant previous experience utilising technical skills to support software development.

Knowledge and Experience:



Experience of communicating and influencing at all levels of an organisation.

Building effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.

Analysing data, creating reports, and presenting information.

Solving technical issues through knowledge and skill.

Working independently to achieve objectives.

Creating training materials and providing training and support to users.

Working with sensitive and confidential information, understanding GDPR and government security classifications.

Skills, Abilities, and Personal Qualities:



Effective communication both orally and in writing.

Interacting well with colleagues to achieve workable solutions.

Ability to take ownership of tasks, prioritise workloads, and work independently.

Proven ability to analyse requirements, identify issues, and provide support.

Strong attention to detail and analytical and problem-solving skills.
