About the role:




PwC has one of the UK's largest, market-leading, teams of lawyers specialising in helping clients resolve and prevent disputes with tax authorities. Our tax lawyers engage in the full spectrum of tax dispute resolution work during the lifespan of a dispute - advising clients about dispute prevention, helping clients with tax authority enquiries, and conducting litigation where necessary in the tax tribunals and the courts.


This role is for a tax lawyer who has acted in UK tax disputes to join our specialist legal team. The successful candidate will focus on helping corporate clients with direct tax disputes with HMRC.


Our tax disputes legal team is an integral part of PwC's wider tax practice, which is one of the largest and most successful tax practices in the UK. As such, this role offers a great opportunity to collaborate with some of UK's top tax specialists across the full range of direct tax subject areas, including with our diverse wider team of experienced disputes professionals. What your days will look like:



Take ownership of tax dispute resolution projects. In particular: prepare technically and impactful written advice and advocacy for clients in their disputes with HMRC; manage the conduct of tax litigation; collaborate with and manage various stakeholders including clients, senior PwC team members and specialists, junior colleagues, HMRC, external counsel and the tribunals/courts. Engage in business development activities internally within PwC and externally with clients. Take ownership of further developing your personal expertise in tax dispute resolution and the tax administration framework. Champion and contribute to developing the team's continuously evolving engagement with technology and alternative delivery models. Drive knowledge-sharing for our team with the wider PwC tax practice and at client events.

This role is for you if:



You have worked on UK tax disputes projects (HMRC enquiries and/or litigation) You have strong technical skills in taxation, with particular depth of knowledge about the UK tax administration framework and direct tax topics Proven ability to rapidly assimilate and assess large volumes of evidence and to quickly become familiar with areas of law which are new to you Self-leadership skills working in a dynamic environment Excellent communication skills High levels of personal motivation combined with a drive to help seek new work for the team Proven track record in dealing with complex and sometimes emotive scenarios to a high standard of both care and impact
