We're responsible for Land Transaction Tax (LTT) and Landfill Disposals Tax (LDT) We'll also be responsible for the collection and management of the Visitor Levy (VL), and for operating the national register of visitors accommodation providers in Wales. Our work raises revenue to support public services, like the NHS and schools in communities across Wales.

Job description
As a Tax Risk Officer (TRO) you will play a key role in managing tax compliance for LTT and LDT, and supporting taxpayers to pay the right tax at the right time.
You'll need to be a team player with excellent customer service and decision making skills. You'll need to be highly motivated, organised, and able to balance a varied workload made up of technical and administrative activities.
Using Our Approach, you will review cases, such as repayment requests, and manage our debt and enquiry processes, applying sound judgment to achieve fair outcomes.
You'll work closely with internal teams (Helpdesk, Tax Specialists, Finance, Legal, Policy) and external stakeholders such as taxpayers and their agents, providing excellent customer service and explanations of decisions.
To be successful in the role, you'll be confident in making decisions and explaining how these have been reached within our processes while providing excellent, timely customer service to both internal and external customers. A full training package will be provided for all aspects of the role.

Work with taxpayers and their agents to support Our Approach, ensuring a fair and efficient tax process.
Review and process repayment claims, conducting compliance checks to ensure the right tax is paid while maintaining accurate audit trails.
Manage debt recovery and enforcement activities in line with WRA policies.
Undertaking review requests by working with the taxpayer and agent to gather relevant information to make an informed decision, and communicating this to the taxpayer.
Carry out compliance checks, including formal enquiries to address risks where necessary. Work with stakeholders to understand the risks and reach resolution. Assessing the application of penalties where inaccuracies are
Working with taxpayers and agents, providing enhanced support where appropriate, either in complex cases, or for those with specific needs or requiring other additional support.
Undertake appropriate engagement activities to identify potential errors and risks in tax returns, with the aim of supporting taxpayers to pay the right tax at the right time.
Work with colleagues across the WRA to improve processes and share best practice.
Support the Operations Manager in resolving customer complaints and improving our services in response to customer feedback.
Be a role model across the organisation by taking a positive, open approach to changes and helping others understand the reason they are put in place.
