Overview


We are seeking a skilled, compassionate teacher to lead Maths and English for learners with special educational needs and disabilities. You will deliver high-quality, differentiated teaching across Key Stages appropriate to your experience, and may be asked to teach other subjects as part of our broad, life-centred curriculum. You will help pupils make strong progress in core literacy and numeracy, build confidence, and meet EHCP outcomes.

Key responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging Maths and English lessons matched to pupils' needs, interests and EHCP targets. Teach towards appropriate pathways such as Functional Skills, Entry Level, GCSE or bespoke pre-keystage curricula. Scaffold learning with clear routines, visuals and structured language. Use assistive and adaptive technology where helpful. Use robust assessment for learning. Track progress, moderate judgements, and adjust teaching based on evidence. Implement positive behaviour support and trauma-informed practice to maintain a calm, safe classroom. Work closely with TAs to maximise support and independence. Direct and develop their impact in lessons. Communicate effectively with parents and carers through regular updates and constructive meetings. Collaborate with therapists and external professionals to integrate SALT, OT and wider strategies into teaching. Contribute to wider curriculum offers including PSHE, life skills, ICT, creativity and outdoor learning where timetabled. Take responsibility for a tutor group and contribute to safeguarding, attendance and personal development. Maintain high standards of classroom environment, display, resources and safety. Engage in professional development and share practice across the team. Fulfil all duties in line with Teachers' Standards, the SEND Code of Practice and Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Essential



Proven ability to teach Maths and English effectively to pupils with a range of SEND profiles, for example ASC, ADHD, SEMH, SLCN and MLD. Strong differentiation skills, including task design, scaffolding and use of visuals and manipulatives. Confident behaviour management grounded in positive behaviour support. Skilled in assessment for learning, target setting and evidencing progress. Clear, empathetic communication with pupils, staff and families. Commitment to safeguarding, equality, dignity and high expectations for every learner.

Desirable



Experience delivering Functional Skills, Entry Level or GCSE pathways. Training in approaches such as phonics interventions, precision teaching, TEACCH, Makaton or PECS. Experience coordinating a subject or leading an area of the curriculum. Team Teach or equivalent positive handling training. Experience using adaptive technology and accessible resources.
