Purpose of the Role:
To deliver high-quality A-Level teaching in Business and/or Economics that inspires students, raises achievement, and supports learners in preparing for university or careers in business, finance, economics, or entrepreneurship.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach A-Level
Business Studies
and/or
Economics
following UK national curriculum specifications (e.g., AQA, Edexcel, OCR).
Design and deliver dynamic, student-centred lessons that develop analytical thinking, commercial awareness, and academic excellence.
Assess, record, and report on the progress of students in line with school policy.
Prepare students thoroughly for internal assessments and final A-Level exams.
Use a range of teaching methods and digital tools to cater to diverse learner needs.
Monitor student performance and provide timely, personalised feedback to support progress.
Participate in departmental planning, resource development, and curriculum reviews.
Attend and contribute to staff meetings, INSET days, and parent consultation evenings.
Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, behaviour, and student well-being.
Promote a culture of aspiration, responsibility, and achievement.
Take part in extracurricular activities, such as enterprise clubs, competitions, or trips, where relevant.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
A good honours degree in Business, Economics, or a closely related subject.
UK
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
or equivalent teaching qualification recognised in the UK.
Experience teaching either Business or Economics at A-Level (or equivalent) within a UK curriculum context.
Strong understanding of relevant exam boards and assessment frameworks.
Demonstrated impact on student achievement and progression.
Desirable (Added Advantage):
Ability to teach
both
Business and Economics to A-Level standard.
Experience with curriculum design and development.
Familiarity with digital teaching platforms and blended learning models.
Experience teaching international students or familiarity with Cambridge International A-Levels.
Skills and Competencies:
Excellent subject knowledge with a passion for Business and/or Economics education.
Strong lesson planning and classroom management skills.
Ability to deliver engaging lessons that stretch and challenge students.
Effective use of data to monitor student progress and inform teaching.
Skilled in feedback and assessment strategies.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Proficient in using ICT to enhance learning and assessment.
