JOB DESCRIPTION



KEY TASKS:



? Support the planning of academic, vocational and support programmes, and to deliver these programmes to small group and individual students

? To lead and assist with the range of activities designed to meet the complex needs of the child or young person. This will include, where appropriate, direct teaching/ instruction of individual or small groups, and the direction of other staff, this will take place under the supervision and direction of a teacher.

? To support the behaviour and emotional development of students within and outside the classroom during the school day

? To support students with challenging behaviour which may include the use of appropriate physical intervention in line with both the School Policy and training Hours

? To be jointly responsible, with all staff, for the safeguarding of the children and young people in the care of the school. It is a requirement of the role that all staff adhere to all relevant safeguarding policies and procedures.

? Liaise with the teacher and other staff (educational and residential) about the needs and progress of students

? Guide and mentor students so that targeted achievements are met

? Respond to the student's causes of concern and needs

? Maintain and prepare student reports/ records/ daily logs as required

? Ensure that, where relevant, Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) are used to set specific targets for students across the school year

? Contribute to, as relevant, Annual Reviews of EHCPs

? Ensure the effective support of students' literacy, numeracy and IT skills

? To work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team (education, care and therapy)

? Perform all duties in compliance with relevant School Policies; Health and Safety Regulations; Safeguarding and Child Protection and SEND Code of Practice, and any other relevant regulations or requirements

? Participate in training to improve skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the needs of the post and the students

? Attend and undertake training, meetings and supervision as requested by the Head Teacher

? Drive school vehicles when required

? Work with staff to ensure the school premises are kept clean, safe and well maintained, this will include the cleaning - shared with all staff - of the learning areas and office area

? To ensure CPD is up to date and recorded

The above are the key tasks expected but the role will require the undertaking of any other duties within the competency of the post, as determined by the Head Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING



? Relevant qualifications to support the literacy and numeracy progress of students, and a willingness to improve own academic skills if required (E)

? Other relevant training such as First Aid, Safeguarding, Behaviour Management (D)

? Driving Licence (E)

? Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning or other relevant course (D) and a willingness to study to gain additional qualifications where relevant (E)

? Basic food hygiene certificate (D)

? Qualifications in sport, health, music, etc (D)

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE



? Experience of, or a clear knowledge and passion for, working with children and young people who can display challenging behaviours (E)

? Knowledge and understanding of the safeguarding of vulnerable children and young people (E)

? Knowledge of children and young people's therapeutic, developmental, emotional and health needs (D)

? Understanding of current issues within education and special needs (D)

? Understanding of behaviour management strategies (E)

? Able to support all aspects of the school across the academic, vocational, emotional as well as operational areas of the school (E)

Pay: 20,000.00-25,000.00 per day
