We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Mentor to provide a complementary service to teachers and other staff, addressing the needs of children who require assistance in overcoming barriers to learning such that they may access the national curriculum across all subjects and achieve their full potential.
The Behaviour Mentor will work with children on a one-to-one basis or two-to-one basis but may also work in small or large groups. This could be with a range of pupils but priority will be given to those who need the most help (specified by the school), especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages due their unique circumstances, precipitating challenging behaviour, and children with a statement of special educational needs.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in early childhood education and have experience working with children. This role involves guiding and nurturing young learners, helping them achieve their academic and personal goals through tailored support and encouragement.
Roles and Responsibilities - Mentoring and Behaviour
1. Collaborate as a team member under the leadership of school staff including the headteacher.
2. Create a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment for children to thrive in.
3. Promote and deliver high-quality support within the school. Work with children whose behaviour and disaffection has significant impact upon their attainment.
4. To devise, implement and evaluate specialized programmes of work to encourage and promote a pupil's social emotional and behavioural development.
5. The scheme will comply with the school's behaviour policy. It will feature constructive and restorative conversations with students which will involve teaching staff where appropriate.
6. The scheme will feature constructive breakouts designed to provide restoration and time for effective reflection. These will be delivered via a range of possible activities; the activity utilised will depend upon the needs, characteristics, and current disposition of the targeted pupil in question. It may at times feature the use of physical activity.
7. To work with teaching staff and/or other support staff in devising and implementing individual learning plans to promote pupils' academic, social, emotional and behavioural development. Help to ensure these plans align accurately with updates to the national curriculum.
8. To plan and facilitate structured games and activities, to support pupils to make appropriate use of unstructured times.
9. Act as a positive role model, fostering a positive and enjoyable atmosphere to motivate and engage students in various subjects, while welcoming all participants in a professional and friendly manner.
10. Identify the abilities of participants and encourage them to reach their full potential by planning and delivering activities suitable for their level and ability.
11. Help students to manage, resolve, and prevent reoccurrence of conflict and unregulated outbursts by using and teaching them a variety of strategies.
12. To observe and monitor pupil progress, adapting an agreed approach to meet particular needs, recording and maintaining records of pupils' development and progress.
13. To contribute to the assessment of pupil progress and to produce detailed termly and annual written reports outlining pupil progress.
14. Communicate and collaborate with parents, support staff, and teachers, to ensure effective support for pupil; provide updates on students' progress and development as needed.
15. Outreach to families whose home circumstances appear to present a significant barrier to successful learning, and work with parents to help the student achieve their targets.
16. Contribute to the writing of the School Self Evaluation form (SEF) in relation to the work of the Behaviour Mentor.
17. Monitor student's progress before, during and after intervention to measure the impact of
the intervention strategy in progress; include student evaluations.
18. Maintain a record of evaluations as evidence of effective practice, support and guidance.
19. Identifying, in association with school staff, pupils who would benefit from mentoring.
20. Setting up and running circle time sessions and anger management groups where necessary.
21. Networking with other Behaviour Mentors to share good practice.
22. Create a directory of resources, activities, organisations and support services which can be drawn upon by staff/parents to support children identified.
23. Organising training for other Learning Support Assistants/Teaching Assistants.
24. Regularly monitor and reward the achievement of children working with you/with whom we are working.
25. Attend and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings contributing to the sharing of information and/or planning in relation to specific pupils.
26. Undertake a range of administrative duties relevant to the post.
27. Participate as required in relevant training which has been identified by the members of the Senior Leadership Team. This will include a planned induction period.
28. Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times.
29. Any other duties relevant to the work of the postholder as requested by the Senior Leadership Team.
30. Occasionally teaching groups of children circle activities/PHSE games during PPA time.
31. Any other duties as directed by the Headteacher/ Senior Team.
32. Assist with after school clubs if necessary.
33. Potentially be involved in preparing and training students for both internal and external sports competitions.
34. To potentially provide first aid as necessary (training will be given).
35. Provide behaviour mentor support at sports camps during half-terms and holiday periods.
36. Maintain close communication with EMPWR Head of Education and General Manager and the school's staff, including the headteacher.
Professional Development
- Engage in appropriate and agreed-upon ongoing professional development, staying informed about relevant trends and courses within the sector.
- Participate in whole school and individual in-service training programs.
- Share expertise, particularly in the field of behaviour management, with other staff members.
Health and Safety
- Ensure the safe use of all equipment, operate within Health & Safety guidelines, and conduct risk assessments where necessary.
- Log and report any incidents, accidents, or safety concerns to the Head Teacher or Deputy Head Teacher.
- Report any safety concerns or health and safety issues to the Health and Safety Inspector (HSI) and Head Teacher.
General Duties
- Arrive in a timely manner before lesson start times to adequately prepare for lessons.
- Present and conduct in an appropriate and courteous manner with respect for others.
- Attend whole school assemblies when required.
- Maintain qualifications, ensuring they are up-to-date and relevant.
- Attend meetings, including review sessions, and continuing professional development (CPD) courses as recommended.
- Attend regular training sessions, both within and outside of school, as relevant.
- Adhere to all school policies and procedures.
- Adhere to the school's behaviour policy and ensure high standards of behaviour in all sessions.

Requirements
Proven experience working with children, preferably in a mentoring or educational capacity.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices.
Familiarity with tutoring techniques and resources for various subjects.
Experience or training in Applied Behaviour Analysis is highly desirable.
Some experience with sports coching may be beneficial.
A passion for mentoring and supporting children's growth both academically and personally.
