Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a committed and resilient

Teaching Assistant

to work with primary-aged pupils with

Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism, and associated challenging behaviours

. This is a full-time, permanent position based at our school in Poole.

Main Responsibilities

Support the learning, behaviour, and social development of pupils with SEMH and Autism. Provide one-to-one and small group support, promoting engagement and inclusion. Assist with the implementation of individual behaviour and learning plans. Use effective de-escalation strategies and provide consistent boundaries. Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support pupil progress.
Person Specification

Essential:

Previous experience of supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour.

Desirable:

Background in sports coaching, the police, armed forces, or previous school-based experience. Strong interpersonal skills, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. A positive role model with the ability to build constructive relationships with pupils and staff. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
