About us
------------
The UCL Institute for Global Prosperity (IGP) is a multidisciplinary Institute committed to innovative research and teaching focused on how to build, enhance and ensure the sustainable prosperity of human societies across the globe. It was founded in 2014 by Professor Dame Henrietta L. Moore who is also the Director. It works collaboratively across the 11 Faculties of UCL and with a range of partners globally, including civil society organisations, government departments, communities and businesses. UCL's Citizen Science Academy is an innovative new initiative offering community-based, practice-led research education and training to empower citizens to lead change through social action and shaping policies that impact their livelihoods. UCL's Citizen Science Academy is based at the Institute for Global Prosperity and has been designed in partnership with UCL's Office for Open Science. It has an established history of collaborating with Camden Council on citizen social science projects. For more information about this see Good Life Euston, and pages 36-40 of this document developed at the 2025 Camden Summit.
About the role
------------------
This post is to support the lead tutor in delivery of a new UCL Citizen Science Academy research training programme in collaboration with the London Borough of Camden. The post is funded for 12 hours a week for 13 weeks, starting mid-February 2026, in the first instance. It is offered at Grade 6, Spine Point 22. The post will be held in the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity (IGP) and will work with the UCL Citizen Science Academy within the IGP. This fixed-term post is the next step of a developing collaboration with the London Borough of Camden and is the first citizen science project of its type funded through a local authority's Community Infrastructure Levy funding. The project has been funded through Camden Council's Planning team and is therefore expected to produce research of value to the planning team, informing future planning applications. The planning team have selected 'Safety for Women and Girls in Public Space across Camden' as the theme of the project.
About you
-------------
The post-holder will work with the Course Lead to support new citizen scientists being guided through the research programme, resulting in them being awarded the UCL Citizen Science Certificate. The course will be co-designed, delivered and evaluated in 2026. It is expected that eight local residents will be recruited, trained in basic research ethics, methods, and project planning, supported to undertake fieldwork locally, and develop research outputs. The role of the Teaching Assistant will be to help with the practicalities of running the teaching sessions, assist in liaising with the citizen scientists, answering minor queries, and provide support to the citizen scientists through one-to-one meetings.
