The role

Birchwood Community High School is a thriving school at the heart of community life and continues to grow and flourish. A post has arisen to support a young person on a 1-1 basis with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The successful candidate will work in our Key Stage 3 classroom within the school's exceptional provision - a purpose designed resourced provision that caters for up to 16 students with a diagnosis of autism. This role is a fixed term contract until 31 August 2026 in the first instance, working 31.25 hours per week, term time only, plus 5 Inset days.

The person appointed will:-



Ideally have experience of working with children in an educational setting and it would be desirable to have some experience of working with children who have Autism Experience and understanding of how to support children who display challenging or heightened behaviour Have experience of or be willing to implement interventions and strategies to overcome barriers to learning in order to speed up academic progress Support children who can display challenging behaviour Be a team player with a good sense of humour Have a sensitive but enthusiastic approach Be willing to undertake first aid training and Team Teach training
