patient and resilient SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant
to provide dedicated support to a student with specific educational needs. This role is fundamental to creating an inclusive classroom environment, enabling a young learner to overcome barriers and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
Provide
dedicated 1:1 support
to a student, adapting learning materials and classroom activities to meet the specific targets outlined in their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Work closely with the student to implement
positive behaviour management strategies
, fostering emotional self-regulation, resilience, and confidence.
Support the student's access to the curriculum, particularly in core subjects like
Maths and English
, by breaking down tasks and reinforcing concepts delivered by the teacher.
Assist the class teacher in creating an
inclusive and supportive learning environment
, ensuring the student can participate in lessons in a meaningful way.
Build a
strong, trusting relationship
with the student, acting as their advocate and champion in the classroom.
Liaise effectively with the class teacher, SENCO, parents, and external specialists to ensure a
consistent and holistic support network
.
Help
monitor, track, and report on the student's progress
against their EHCP targets, celebrating their achievements along the way.
Required Skills & Qualifications
? Proven experience working as a
Teaching Assistant
or in a similar school-based support role. ? A strong understanding of
Special Educational Needs (SEN)
and experience supporting students with an EHCP. ? Excellent ability to
build rapport on a 1:1 basis
with children who may have communication or social interaction challenges. ? Familiarity with supporting students with needs such as
Autism, ADHD, or SEMH
is highly desirable. ? A
calm, patient, and empathetic nature
, with the ability to de-escalate challenging situations. ? Strong foundational skills in
Maths and English
and the ability to explain concepts in an accessible way. ? A genuine passion for
inclusive education
and empowering children to succeed.
