The Role:
This role is a pivotal one in the academy's future journey, as our newly appointed Teaching Assistant will help to continue to build upon the successes of our Trust. The successful candidate will form part of the support team and will work closely with the Principal, other senior leaders and all staff across the school.
ASC Teaching Assistant will support students from years 7 - 11 across the curriculum as directed by the Centre Manager.

Under the direction of the Assistant Principal (SEND)/Head of ASC Centre, the post holder will work as part of a team to promote the educational, social, physical and emotional development of pupils within the ASC Centre.
The post holder will work with all pupils in the SRP to support them in school and act as a lead TA for a nominated pupil, having particular responsibility for his/her welfare. Regular liaison with parents, teachers and fellow TAs is an important part of the job.
It is expected that the post holder will have undertaken relevant training or have compensatory employment experience. It is desirable that he/she has a full understanding of the needs of pupils with ASC, and how to meet those needs.
Key Accountabilities:
Main duties
Under the direction of the Assistant Principal (SEND) / Head of ASC Centre, classroom teacher or designated supervisors:
Supporting the pupil
Provide appropriate levels of support and encouragement to a designated pupil in a range of lessons
Observe pupils' responses to learning activities and encourage them to take as much responsibility as possible for their own learning/work.
Monitor pupils' responses to learning activities and encourage them to take an interest in their own learning.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with all pupils in the ASC Centre .
Help pupils to develop some inter dependence, decision making skills, problem solving and general life skills (post holder will be responsible for delivering social and life skills to individuals/small groups of pupils)
Ensure that homework tasks are completed during designated time
Supporting the teacher
Liaise regularly with teachers about what is being taught in lessons, and refer to the electronic schemes of work, resources etc in order to be well informed about the curriculum.
Keep brief records of pupils' attitude, behaviour and achievement in lessons.
Where necessary, and usually in consultation with the teacher be prepared to return to the ASC Centre when students are unable to cope with a lesson.
Ensure that any materials e.g. text books are returned to departments.
Supplementary Accountabilities:
First Aider (training will be given)
Minibus driving to support lessons or other school activity on an ad-hoc basis
Support the academy behaviour management programme
Monitor and contribute to any specific behaviour plans for pupils in the ASC Centre
Support the effectiveness of all work teams
Support the maintenance of pupil safety and security and minimise the risk from health emergencies.
In accordance with the provisions of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, to take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself, colleagues and pupils who may be affected by your omissions at work, and to co-operate with the academy so far as is necessary to enable the academy to perform or comply with their duties under statutory health and safety provisions. Undertake any other duties that can be accommodated within the grading level and nature of this post.
Knowledge and Experience:
Minimum
Good general level of education to include Maths and English GCSE grade C or above, or further relevant experience in the absence of formal qualifications.
Experience working as a TA or other relevant experience, Experience of:
working with pupils with SEN
or supervising and delivering a catch up programme
or supporting a pupil with complex SEN by modifying and delivering programmes as directed by teachers and other professionals
Preferred
Already have:
ASC related qualifications and/or experience of working with ASC pupils
Training
Willing to keep up to date with current research/thinking on ASC and other diagnosed SEN
Willing to complete on line training (as necessary) provided by the academy
Decision Making:
Working under the direction of the line manager/classroom teacher, but some discretion is required - works independently with individuals or groups. Likely to need to initiate contact with parents/carers for designated pupil.
