Ysgol y Rhos is a small, specialist independent school supporting pupils aged 8-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and additional learning needs. We work to the Curriculum for Wales within an integrated model of education, care and therapy, offering pupils a fresh start every day. Job Purpose:
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and proactive Teaching Assistant who can:
Provide in?class support across the curriculum.
Deliver 1:1 and small?group intervention sessions (academic, emotional or behavioural).
Support pupils during outdoor education and off?site learning.
The successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils regulate behaviour, build trusting relationships and develop the skills they need to succeed both in and beyond the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom & Learning Support
Support teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons aligned with the Curriculum for Wales.
Provide targeted 1:1 and small?group interventions to support literacy, numeracy, emotional regulation or personalised targets.
Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs as set out in PLPs, IDPs or EHCPs
Promote positive engagement, independence and resilience in learning.
Behaviour & Pastoral Support
Implement agreed behaviour support strategies consistently and calmly.
Support pupils to manage emotions, de?escalate conflict and reflect on behaviour.
Build positive, trusting relationships that support pupils' self?esteem and sense of belonging.
Act as a positive role model, maintaining clear boundaries at all times.
Outdoor Education & Enrichment
Support pupils during outdoor education sessions, enrichment activities and educational visits.
Contribute to practical, hands?on learning experiences that build confidence, teamwork and resilience.
Carry out duties safely in line with risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
Teamwork & Professional Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and care staff as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to monitoring, recording and reporting pupil progress and behaviour.
Attend staff meetings, training and CPD, including behaviour management and safeguarding.
Support breaktimes, lunchtimes and transitions as required.
Undertake any reasonable duties as directed by the Headteacher.
