PERSON SPECIFICATION - Teaching Assistant
To work closely with your class teacher and support them in their duties. Flexibility is key for this role, as your tasks may change from day to day. Typical activities include:
1:1 student support
Small group support
Preparation of learning materials
Report writing
Tracking folder management
ASDAN folder management
Activity support
Food technology
Arts and crafts
Social and life skills support
Safeguarding
Fire warden
H & S monitoring
COSHH monitoring
First aid
Walking students to and from therapy sessions
Collecting students from their taxis.
Teaching Assistant responsibilities
Assist the class teacher with conducting lessons, managing the classroom and developing materials
Track student progress during their placements and create reports to let parents/placing school understand what their children/students are learning
Empower students through programmes designed to enhance their academic and social achievements
Support parents with application of the student's programme
Work with computers and specialised equipment to make these resources available to the teacher during lessons
Act as a nurturing and encouraging influence for students during lessons
Monitor the classroom and minimise distractions and disruptions.
Ensuring that therapeutic language (PACE) is used in the classroom and modelling this with / to students.
Teaching Assistant qualifications and skills
Essential experience working:
As a teaching assistant or similar post
With children who experience EBSD
With children with SEN
With Safeguarding procedures
Of lone working in the community and schools
Desirable experience :
Hold a current teaching assistant qualification or be willing to work towards a TA qualification.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Previous teaching assistant experience
Familiarity with learning management systems and other educational software e.g. Bromcom, SIMS.
