The Agriculture Team at SRUC Oatridge delivers high-quality teaching and practical training in modern farming and agri-business. Based on the 283-hectare Oatridge estate, they combine classroom learning with hands-on experience on a working farm. Lecturers, instructors, and farm staff specialise in areas such as livestock management, crop production, and sustainable agriculture, supporting courses from NC to HND level. Their goal is to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for careers in Scotland's land-based industries.
The Opportunity:
The role is as a teaching instructor (100%) to students studying for NC to HNC-level courses. The post will be based at Oatridge campus near Broxburn within the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Land-based Engineering. This role will deliver practical instruction to develop the practical skills of agriculture students together with staff engaged in education provision based at the Oatridge Campus.
Key areas of teaching responsibility will include:
Planning, preparing and engaging in inclusive learning experiences to progress students' education, working both independently and cooperatively with others where relevant
Liaise with all staff involved to ensure co-ordination and smooth teaching delivery including engagement with farm-based staff.
Delivery of accredited training
Assist with the administration and marking of assessments
Plan and conduct student practical's and assessments in accordance with Awarding Body and Regulatory Body standards
Monitor student progress and provide formative feedback, as appropriate
Manage, audit and maintain all stock and resources/equipment needed in the support of curriculum areas ensuring staff and students are able to utilise equipment as and when required
Maintaining appropriate records of teaching, assessment and attendance and providing educational guidance, and mentoring as required to students
Ensuring compliance with the policy and guidelines on health and safety in teaching
Working with the Programme Team Leader to help identify opportunities to further develop the academic portfolio to increase student recruitment
Maintaining appropriate liaison with the land-based industries and ensuring that personal skills and qualifications are updated
Planning farm visits and accompanying students on external visits
The driving of vehicles, including farm machinery and mini busses, for the business of SRUC will be required
The post holder may be required to assist on other campuses, but travel provisions will be provided
The post holder may be asked from time to time to assist with research projects on-farm

Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of an HND (SCQF Level 8) in a relevant subject, such as agriculture or animal science, and/or have strong practical agricultural experience. Good people skills, attention to detail and excellent communication skills are also required. The successful candidate must be able to work both independently, and with other team members, to ensure that accurate results are delivered to agreed deadlines.
