UCL Mechanical Engineering has been pioneering the development of engineering education, having taught the core discipline for over 165 years. UCL was home to the UK's first ever Professor of the Mechanical Principles of Engineering, Eaton Hodgkinson, in 1847. It was also where Sir Alexander Blackie William Kennedy introduced organized laboratory practicals in university education training; a world-leading educational innovation at the time.

About the role
We are recruiting for two Teaching and Learning Administrator positions.
Under the direction of the Teaching and Learning Manager and Senior Teaching and Learning Administrator and in conjunction with relevant academic staff, the appointees will provide specialist administration to the designated teaching programmes, ensuring effective procedures are documented and adopted for dealing with all aspects of its administration. These posts will assist in achieving a high quality and timely service to current and prospective students, and staff relating to the designated courses/programmes and beyond.
The appointees will provide support for all matters relating to the teaching and learning activities of students from enquiry to completion, incorporating supporting committees and processes relating to assessment, student and course records.
You must be efficient, organised and take great care in attention to detail. Interaction with many people within and external to UCL is essential and therefore a professional attitude, willingness to help and a positive outlook are required in order to adequately execute the duties outlined.
The two open posts are described below. Please indicate in your application if you prefer a particular role:
1. Teaching and Learning Administrator

• The postholder will provide specialist administration for student casework (extenuating circumstances and academic integrity), short courses (Submarine Design Course and Marine Technology Education Consortium), Affiliate, Year in Industry and Year Abroad programmes, and quality assurance (support for external examiners).

2. Teaching and Learning Administrator (Undergraduate)
The postholder will provide specialist administration for the department's undergraduate programmes as a member of our UG programmes team. The role supports all matters relating to the teaching and learning activities of UG students from enquiry to completion, with a particular focus on Year 1 and 2 of the programme.
NOTE: The faculty is currently reorganizing its Education Administration & Student Experience (EASE) function. This may result in changes to some of the specific duties and responsibilities of this position and its reporting line(s). This will be done in full consultation with the post holder. The post holder will be expected to implement change and support continuous improvement across the Faculty EASE function as this change process is undertaken across the faculty, and on an ongoing basis going forward.
About you
We would be delighted to meet with candidates who meet the following criteria:

• Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (Including Mathematics and English Language) or equivalent or having acquired relevant experience.
• Educated to A level standard, or equivalent experience such as report writing (desirable).
• Formal qualifications in word processing/IT.
• Administrative work in a busy office environment.
• Administration in higher/further education or a teaching and learning environment.
• Course/Programme administration.
• Computer literate, including Word, Excel, Outlook, email and internet.
• Ability to use web publishing software to produce documents for web (desirable)
• Clear verbal and written communication skills (including accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation).
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of people, including the ability to relate to staff and students in a teaching and learning context.
• Ability to prioritise and organise own workload.
• Ability to work under pressure and deal with high volumes of processing.
• Ability to work accurately and with high attention to detail.
• Ability to meet time-critical schedules.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work confidentially and pro-actively.
• Be willing and able to learn and use new systems quickly, including UCL specific systems such as Portico.
