As the National Water Quality Instrumentation Service (NWQIS) Team Leader (calibration and maintenance laboratory), you will bring a positive, visible, and inclusive leadership style which will inspire and motivate the team to efficiently achieve environmental outcomes. Your team will be working with partner organisations and commercial customers to make our rivers a better place for people and wildlife.
Lead a team that provides Water Quality Instrumentation
Work closely with the technical lead of the laboratory to improve and consolidate technical practices and procedures.
Promote and reinforce the Environment Agency's vision and culture
Develop, support, motivate and empower team members to achieve their potential.
Build and manage strong relationships internally and externally for both customers and suppliers
Contribute to the wider leadership community
Ensure our performance and health, safety and wellbeing are managed to the highest standards.

The team
The National Water Quality Instrumentation Service (NWQIS) provides support to all instrument-based water quality monitoring activities undertaken across the Agency.
We deliver a vital service that underpins the Environment Agency's regulatory responsibilities, and we are playing a central role in the development and expansion of real time water quality monitoring in relation our responsibilities under the 2021 Environment Act. The team also supports a wide range of citizen science and stakeholder partnerships.
Experience/skills required
We are looking for someone who has:
Previous Team Leader / management experience
Excellent people, teamwork and leadership skills.
Experience in motivating people to deliver to their full potential and delivering against corporate targets.
A good understanding of health & safety risk management.
Experience of working with a range of customers both internal and external and delivering excellent customer service.
The ability to prioritise tasks and to quickly adapt to changing situations.
A Technical background and experience in maintaining high quality systems.
Familiarity with a laboratory/technology facility
Basic knowledge of water chemistry and/or quality
Above all, you will be passionate about leading, motivating, supporting, developing your team. Effective relationships, across your peers and beyond, are key to delivery. You will be experienced in working across organisations. You will be a confident communicator, able to influence and support others, internally and externally.
