Shift Leader

to join our residential care team in Tottenham -- someone who's ready to step up, lead with purpose, and make a real, lasting difference.

Your Role:



As

Shift Leader

, you'll take the lead during shifts, supporting both young residents and team members to deliver consistent, high-quality care. You'll act as a role model, provide structure and guidance, and ensure each child receives the individual attention and support they need to feel safe, heard, and empowered.

You'll also take ownership of a structured set of responsibilities each month, aligned with the

Children's Homes Regulations 2015

and the

Quality Standards

, covering young person-focused care, team support, safeguarding, documentation, and the overall running of the home.

Key Responsibilities:Young Person-Focused Support



Monitor and record progress on Placement Plans and Risk Assessments. Lead and document Keywork sessions with assigned young people. Incorporate children's views into daily decision-making and routines. Support with reviews, education planning, contact arrangements, and meetings. Monitor behaviour patterns and promote emotional regulation using therapeutic, trauma-informed approaches.

Team Leadership and Supervision



Lead 8-12 shifts per month (including sleep-ins), ensuring structure and consistency. Conduct effective handovers and allocate shift tasks fairly. Supervise and mentor designated support workers. Support the induction and integration of new and agency staff. Champion trauma-informed practice and model positive behaviour support.

Safeguarding and Behaviour Monitoring



Record and escalate incidents, disclosures, and safeguarding concerns. Complete detailed incident reports and guide reflective practice post-incident. Identify and challenge safeguarding risks including bullying, CSE, or absconding. Maintain accurate records of physical interventions, sanctions, and Regulation 35 logs. Support young people's access to online safety and emotional wellbeing tools.

Record Keeping & Compliance



Maintain high standards of daily logs, medication (MAR) records, and hygiene documentation. Audit keywork notes, incident logs, and communication records regularly. Review MAR charts and report discrepancies promptly. Check and maintain delegated areas such as fire safety logs, petty cash, and food stock levels.

Health, Safety & Environment



Participate in monthly Health & Safety audits and fire drills. Conduct checks of ligature cutters, First Aid kits, and fire exits. Ensure cleanliness and safety across the home during every shift. Log and follow up on maintenance and repair issues.

Communication & Reporting



Contribute to monthly staff meetings and team discussions. Report performance issues or team needs to the Deputy Manager. Share updates on young people's progress or concerns with leadership and external professionals.

Learning, Reflection & Development



Complete mandatory training and refresher courses as required. Debrief with staff after incidents, encouraging reflective learning. Promote best practices during handovers and staff meetings. Monitor and support team understanding of care plans and key documents.

Operational Support



Help plan and support medical, educational, and social appointments. Oversee and manage petty cash and expenditure logs on shift. Assist with organising birthdays, trips, and cultural celebrations. Monitor stock levels for food, hygiene supplies, and essentials.

What We're Looking For:



Minimum of 2 years' experience

in residential childcare or a similar care setting

Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare

(or working towards) Strong leadership with excellent communication and team-building skills A calm, resilient, and child-centred approach to challenging situations Solid understanding of

safeguarding

and trauma-informed care A

full UK driving licence

(preferred)
