Job Description

We are a residential care provider based at the seafront, in Clacton-on-Sea. We are searching for an enthusiastic Team Leader to join our friendly team. These hours include covering senior care shifts on the floor and some administrative duties. It is essential that you are fluent in English. Candidates with NVQ 3 or equivalent/ higher qualifications are preferred. This position may suit an experienced senior carer looking to progress. Those with previous care and supervisory experience are particularly desirable. The successful candidate will be someone who can act as a good role model within our organisation and meet the following requirements:

Fluent English (both written and spoken)

Previous team leader experience, preferably within residential care

Some of the duties for the Team Leader role include to:

To flexibly work on the floor when needed and oversee the performance of the Care Assistants and other staff members, such as the Cooks and Domestic Assistants.

To develop, implement and review individual care plans, based on an assessment of individual and holistic, psychological, physical and social needs which reflect their rights to independence, privacy, dignity and freedom of choice.

To build warm, caring, and positive relationships with Service Users', keeping the individual's best interests in mind at all times.

To provide individual support and practical help, advice and guidance to individuals in all areas of their life as required whilst respecting at all times the person's rights and dignity in a manner that is entirely non-discriminatory, sensitive to individual needs, image enhancing, and empowering.

To assist with individual personal care such as washing, dressing or using the toilet, domestic home care, managing personal finances and promoting social, emotional and physical wellbeing, education, and general social or leisure activities including making and maintaining friendships and relationships and participating in the local community, as detailed in the individual care plan.

The safe handling and administration of medicines, including ordering, storing, returning and record-keeping.

To work creatively to help individuals recognise achievements, celebrate successes, assist informed decision making, identify problems and find ways of resolving them, and to take advantage of opportunities, gain new experiences, take risks and develop life-skills and confidence.

To help individuals identify future aspirations, and current support needs and preferences, and consider how these can best be met through formal and informal support.

To liaise with other agencies and family member with and on behalf of individuals to enable access to appropriate resources and services (including specialist services).

To help Service Users live together positively, share responsibilities (including running their home), identify common issues and concerns and find solutions to problems.

To act as an advocate or promote active participation through self-advocacy or independent advocacy.

To take on key areas of delegated responsibility such as menu planning, health and safety, COSHH, coordination of a programme of activities, as directed by the Registered Care Home Manager.

LEADING AND MANAGING STAFF:



To lead by example and motivate staff.

To foster good communication and teamwork and an understanding of Brooklyn House's vision, mission, ethos and values across the organisation.

To sustain effective staff management and development processes, including a performance review and supervision, focusing on all aspects of people development.

To maintain a climate that attracts, keeps and motivates high quality people.

To schedule a yearly plan of staff meetings.

To perform tasks including recruiting, inducting and planning a programme of training to ensure the provision of high quality care.

CARE PLANNING:



Oversee the assessment of service user needs and the drawing up of care plans that meet the individual psychological, social and physical holistic needs of Service Users, including risk assessments and other issues such as medication and benefits.

Coordinating Service User care plan reviews involving other health or social care professionals.

Oversee the planning of activities, social events and holidays with Service Users.

HEALTH AND SAFETY:



Work in accordance with the Health and Safety compliance of Brooklyn House.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:



To communicate effectively, and to work positively and co-operatively with managers, other employees, other professionals and agencies, members of the public including family and friends of Service Users and to keep Service Users as the main focus of your efforts.

To take your personal and professional development seriously, including active involvement in supervision, staff meetings and training.

To maintain records in a wide range of areas, abiding by data protection legislation and issues of confidentiality at all times.

To work collaboratively with the manager and other team members, participating in a range of flexible rota arrangements to provide 24-hour cover for the provision of care at Brooklyn House.

To help ensure that the Home is safe, secure and comfortable by offering support, undertaking tasks directly, and where appropriate advising line manager of concerns.

To be aware of Brooklyn House's Health and Safety Policy and understand your own responsibilities within this, and to actively use risk assessment practices to avoid or minimise risk in all areas of your work.

To undertake a number of domestic duties as required, including laundry, ironing, cleaning and fool preparation, as directed.

To be aware of and follow all policies and procedures as laid out in Brooklyn House's Policy and Procedures Manual.
