The Post



We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced manager to lead the Sensory Impairment Team within Adult Social Care at Brent Council.


This pivotal role involves the operational management and supervision of the team, ensuring the effective delivery of needs-led assessments, rehabilitation and preventative services, specialist equipment provision, and wider social care support for adults with sensory impairments.


The successful candidate will oversee staff with expertise in visual impairment, deafness, hearing loss, and dual sensory loss (deaf/blindness). Therefore, it is essential that the post holder brings in-depth knowledge and significant experience working within the field of sensory impairment.

The Person

An essential requirement of this role is for applicants to be a qualified Vision Rehabilitation Specialist and hold current registration with the Rehabilitation Workers Professional Network (RWPN).


You will bring experience of successful management of staff, including managing performance and development while successfully addressing conduct, attendance, and performance capability issues. Skilled in managing budgets, you will bring substantial experience of managing the delivery and improvement of social care. A sound understanding of personalisation and strengths-based assessments will also be vital.


You should have substantial knowledge of adult social care legislation, principles and best practice. The management of risk including in relation to Safeguarding enquiries.


You should have excellent communication skills who can effectively collaborate within social care settings and with both internal and external partners.


You should have a passion for working with adults experiencing sensory impairments and delivering exceptional services. We require someone with expertise in visual impairment, deafness, hearing loss, and dual sensory loss (deaf/blindness).


You should brings in-depth knowledge and significant experience working within the field of sensory impairment. This role is pivotal in ensuring we provide the best possible support and care for adults with sensory impairments.


You will need to be dynamic and analytical in your approach and demonstrate the ability to manage competing demands and prioritise effectively to promote safe, positive and timely decisions for the residents of Brent. You will be able to contribute to developing practice within the team and provide mentoring to colleagues in the wider Adult Social Care teams.


A good understanding of the relevant Adult Social Care and Housing legislation is essential to these posts. You will need to be able to work autonomously within agreed time frames and manage frequently changing circumstances.
