We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Home Care Workers to provide essential support and assistance to individuals in their homes. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for helping others, particularly children, and possess the ability to communicate effectively with clients and their families. This role is vital in ensuring that our clients maintain their independence and quality of life while receiving the care they need.
We are a social work service who have direct experience of working within residential care over the last 25 years, and who bring a wealth of experience in working alongside young people who are in crisis.

MAIN DUTIES
Provide a waking night presence (predominantly) within Tearmann Cottage.
While this role is predominantly a waking night role, there will also be a requirement on occasion to undertake sleep-in duties and/or day shifts on a rota basis.
Ensure that appropriate records are maintained, particularly those detailing observations and/or assessment of each young person, in accordance with statutory requirements agreed and with reference to policy and procedures.
Be required to be active throughout the shift in your care / supervisory duties and in carrying out specific instructions as directed regarding the supervision and monitoring of young people to ensure their safety.
Keep in contact with parents/carers, educational facilities and as appropriate, other professional staff, regarding the needs of the young people.
Demonstrate an understanding of presenting pain-based behaviours from a trauma and attachment informed approach.
Participate in staff meetings, consultations, group discussions, reflective practice and formal supervision as required.
To contribute to the multi-disciplinary assessment of children's needs, by planning, implementing, evaluating and reviewing Therapeutic intervention and well being plans designed to meet such needs, prepare reports and participate in meetings regarding the young people.
To foster a culture and ethos within the home in which the needs of children are paramount and which provides them with security, safety, care and education, enabling them to meet their full potential
To be sensitive to the needs of individual children, taking account of race, culture, language and religion. This includes accompanying young people when necessary to places of worship, holidays, outings, and on other relevant occasions.
All staff are expected to be role models to the children within the home and carry out duties as they would in an ordinary home, all staff are expected to undertake homely duties such as cooking, meal planning, cleaning and ensuring a healthy living routine.
Be able to help create a safe predictable, nurturing environment that will support the children in our care to have the ability to emotionally regulate. Ability to help children settle into positive nighttime routine
Develop appropriate relationships which will promote the growth and development of the young people.
To assume delegated responsibility for the home at the discretion of the Team Leader as required.
Appropriately support and care for the young people in a crisis or significant event. This will require relevant knowledge, skills and values including emotional intelligence and resilience as per Therapeutic Crisis Intervention model, Sensory Attachment Intervention and the Northern Ireland Framework for Integrated Therapeutic Care. Care staff will receive ongoing training and assessment in these models, relevant to their role.
Ensure that environmental safety is maintained, which may include completing checks within the immediate home and responding to any alerts by safety / security systems.
Engage in, participate or lead (as required) handovers both at the beginning of the working shift and as other staff join the shift, to ensure that effective communication and a team approach in the care of the young person is maintained.
The post holder will be required to:
Ensure a working knowledge of all Risk Assessments and Individual Crisis Support Plans for each young person in the home, update risk assessments / ICSP's / daily records as required and contribute to Risk Assessments for young people
Ensure appropriate action to identify, manage and report risk to maintain safety of young people, themselves and others according to Regional and Tearmann Care Safeguarding procedures. All safeguarding events must be reported to the appropriate personnel.
Contribute to the daily life of the home through engaging with the young people in activities such as housework, maintenance of clothing, cooking and promoting personal care.
Participate in and contribute to training programs when appropriate.
The role is contingent upon successful completion of all mandatory training as outlined by the Tearmann Care and RQIA Minimum Standards.
All staff must attend training and pass to the expected standards as required for the role.

Be aware of and implement the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Order (NI) 1979 as it pertains to this post and comply with the Tearmann Care Safety Policy.

Personal Specification
Qualifications
? Hold a Level 3 qualification and have a minimum for 1 years' experience equivalent to 16 hours per week gained in working directly with children/ adolescents and families by the closing date for applications.
OR
? 2 A-level passes, and 2 years paid experience equivalent to 16 hours per week gained in working directly with children/ adolescents and families by the closing date for applications
OR
? N.V.Q. Level 3 in a subject relevant to working with young people, families and communities, plus 3 years paid experience, equivalent to 16 hours per week, gained in working directly with children, adolescents and families by the closing date for applications.
AND
? Current registration (or immediately upon conditional offer ) with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council on the relevant part of the register
Before taking up appointment applicants must have secured Registration with NISCC on the relevant part of the Register.
Relevant experience/Knowledge
Ability to successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training once in post.
Ability to work under stressful and demanding conditions.
Good recording skills and report writing.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Excellent Time management and organisational skills
Evidence of decision making and ability to complete assessments/risk assessments
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
Ability to work in a computer literate environment.
Knowledge of Trauma based therapies and how this may impact on presenting behaviours of young people.
Knowledge of legislation, policy, procedures and current issues/themes regarding residential care

? Degree in a relevant care related subject, for example. Youth work, social care, Psychology.
? Have additional qualifications relevant to the post, which are equivalent or above.
? Current driving license and access to a car to use for business purposes. This criterion will be waived in the case of a suitable applicant whose disability prohibits driving but who is able to organize suitable alternative arrangements in order to meet the full requirements of the post.
