About the Role
MTS Health Limited is seeking a motivated and reliable Technical Assistant to join our on-site team at University Hospital Southampton. This is an excellent opportunity to begin or develop a career in the healthcare technical services sector, supporting the vital work of the NHS.
As a Technical Assistant, you'll play a key role in the Bed Maintenance Service, helping ensure that all hospital beds and associated equipment are safe, clean, and ready for use -- directly contributing to patient comfort and care.
Working alongside our experienced Biomedical and Bed Technicians, you will assist with equipment maintenance, inspection, cleaning, and data entry, as well as help coordinate the collection, movement, and return of beds and related equipment across hospital departments.
This hybrid technical and logistical role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and being part of a fast-paced, supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support technicians with planned and corrective maintenance tasks on hospital beds and related equipment (training provided).
Carry out basic inspections, cleaning, and preparation of equipment in line with infection control and safety standards.
Collect, deliver, and redeploy hospital beds and associated equipment across wards and departments.
Accurately update equipment status and location in the asset management system (e.g., eQuip).
Maintain stock levels of spare parts and consumables within the Bed Store.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH, Manual Handling, and infection prevention regulations.
Liaise professionally with clinical and support staff to ensure smooth equipment turnaround.
Contribute to service improvement initiatives and support team colleagues during busy periods.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
Organised, proactive, and willing to learn new technical skills.
Able to work effectively as part of a busy team.
Committed to quality, safety, and excellent service delivery.
A good communicator with a positive, customer-focused attitude.
Comfortable with physical activity, such as moving and handling hospital equipment (training provided).
Full UK driving licence (desirable but not essential).
No prior technical experience is required -- full training will be provided by MTS Health to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in this role.
Why Join Us?
Competitive salary of 25,375 per annum.
Full-time, permanent role (37.5 hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30-17:00).
Comprehensive training and development provided.
Be part of a respected technical healthcare team supporting one of the UK's leading university hospitals.
Opportunity to contribute to the safe and efficient delivery of patient care.
