The University of Bristol is seeking an experienced and motivated flow cytometry expert to lead our Flow Cytometry Facility.
The flow cytometry facility contains state-of-the-art instrumentation and delivers cutting-edge cytometry provision to numerous research groups both at the University of Bristol as well as external researchers from other universities, research institutes and industry.
As the lead you will direct and manage the facility using expert knowledge to:
Develop creative and innovative solutions in flow cytometry
Deliver a high quality and reliable cell sorting service covering a wide range of cell types, cloning and index sorting of rare cell populations
Deliver and enhance the flow cytometry training provision
Influence experimental design, optimisation, data analysis and high dimensional cell phenotyping
Play a critical role in research planning and delivery covering areas including immunology, cancer biology, regenerative medicine, microbiology, cardiovascular medicine, chemistry and synthetic biology
What will you be doing?

In this advanced technical position, you will serve as the primary expert across all facets of Flow Cytometry, supporting the Biomedical Science community through collaboration with key stakeholders (e.g. Principal Investigators, researchers, students, industrial and commercial partners, or other service users) to develop and deliver specialist technical services.
This will include driving innovation within the Facility, contributing to novel methodologies, producing publication ready high-quality data and strategically integrating emerging technologies.
The Facility Lead will also manage the facility budget, and grant budget(s) as appropriate, with responsibility for financial planning, forecasting and business continuity planning.

you have:
A proven track record of extensive hands-on experience in flow cytometry and related research techniques (including in-depth knowledge of flow cytometry and/or cell sorting, experience with Becton Dickinson and other vendors' cytometry platforms)
Experience in managing and controlling budgets to meet financial performance targets
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities (proactively and reactively as needed) and perform under pressure
The ability to manage, motivate and develop a team of staff
Relevant and up-to-date knowledge and experience of Health and Safety matters within your area of expertise
A strong user-focussed approach and a commitment to continuous improvement and collaboration including expanding the userbase of the service
