The role:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Manager to join the team, to enable Hovis to deliver on its vision of being the best quality brand in bakery. We are looking for a Technical Manager to enable Hovis to deliver on its vision of delivering the best quality products every day, enabling growth in a sustainable way and creating superior value for its stakeholders.

Working with the Technical and operational teams, some of the key accountabilities include;

  • To manage all aspects of Quality, Food Safety & Legality on site.
  • To lead the site Hygiene Team with the Hygiene Manager.
  • To drive continuously for improvement in site standards by advising site Operations and Engineering teams in technical matters, identify issues, problem solve and ensure root cause is identified and corrective and preventative actions are taken.
  • Ensures team members are fully engaged in the pursuit of quality improvement in product and process. Leading a Total Quality approach.
  • Facilitate step-change thinking to sustain the Quality agenda, ensuring the continued delivery of in specification products as monitored by BQED.
  • Supporting the TOPS H&S monitoring process and associated non-conformance closeouts (where applicable).
  • Ensures team members are fully trained and aware of legal requirements and internal / customer standards.
  • Lead the Hygiene function through the Hygiene Manager and their shift teams ensuring the site standards are maintained.
The ideal candidate will be one that is passionate not only about the work they do but the brand they work for, takes ownership of what they do, and is able to influence multiple stakeholders in the right way. They will also be able to focus individuals on specific tasks and behaviours, by bringing a positive, encouraging and consistent behaviour and are able to create a compelling story for the future as well as role model the Hovis Leadership Standards.

Ideal Experiences / Qualifications / Capabilities:

Essential:
  • Experience in a senior technical role in food manufacturing, retail or service
  • People leadership and management experience
  • HACCP Qualification (Level 4) and Pest Control experience
  • Experience or previous responsibility for Hygiene and/or Compliance.
  • Budget management
  • Systematic problem solving and decision making
  • Influencing and challenging
  • Ability to manage customers and enforcement authorities
Desirable:
  • Relevant qualification in Food Science
  • Change management
  • Project management
  • Product knowledge
  • Auditing qualification
