Barking and Dagenham College are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Technician to support both traditional and modern engineering practices within our workshop.


The successful candidate will be skilled in conventional machining, milling, and fabrication, while also competent in operating and maintaining CNC machinery. This role involves preparing and organising practical sessions, ensuring equipment is safe and operational, supporting learners during workshop activities, and upholding high standards of health and safety.


The ideal candidate will be adaptable, detail-oriented, and confident working across a range of engineering disciplines to provide an excellent technical service


You will join us on afull-time (36 hours per week), permanent basis, and in return, we will offer a competitive salary of 30,099 to 31,725 pa inc. London Weighting.


Key Responsibilities of our

Technician-Engineering role;




Ability to prepare, set up, and support practical engineering sessions, ensuring equipment and materials are ready for use. Effective communication skills with the ability to guide and support learners of varying abilities during practical tasks. Flexible, proactive, and able to work independently as well as part of a wider engineering teaching and technical team.

Our ideal Technician-Engineering

should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:




Proven experience in traditional workshop engineering techniques, including machining, milling, and fabrication. A desire to learn how to operate, program, and maintain CNC machinery (e.g., milling, turning, or routing). Strong understanding of health & safety regulations and the ability to maintain a safe, well-organised workshop environment.
