About the role
------------------
The Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London is a global leader in education and research at the interface of engineering, medicine, and biology. Our work spans cutting-edge areas including biomaterials, biomechanics, biomedical imaging, neural engineering, and synthetic biology. We operate across two world-class campuses, South Kensington and White City, with activity now split roughly equally between the two sites.
Our diverse, multidisciplinary community of academics, researchers, technical specialists, and students work collaboratively to address some of the most pressing health and engineering challenges of our time.
This role sits within Bioengineering's multi-disciplinary technical team and is essential to delivering high-quality practical teaching. Based primarily in the South Kensington wet laboratories, you will work closely with your team members to prepare and maintain equipment, reagents, and teaching spaces; provide hands-on technical support during classes; and ensure laboratories operate safely, efficiently, and to a high professional standard.
What you would be doing
---------------------------
The post holder will help to ensure the efficient running of these resources in a manner consistent with good laboratory practice and technique.
You will also support student project work, contribute to the upkeep and improvement of facilities, and take part in departmental initiatives such as sustainability projects, CPD activities, and summer resource development. While the focus is on South Kensington teaching labs, you will work as part of a cross-campus technical team, occasionally providing support to colleagues and facilities at White City.
This is an on-site role requiring a flexible approach to working hours during term time, as well as a commitment to high-quality service, teamwork, and continuous improvement in the student learning experience.
What we are looking for
---------------------------
Degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in a bioscience, bioengineering, or related laboratory discipline
Appropriate professional registration (e.g., RSci, RSciTech, HCPC) or willingness to work towards this
Practical experience supporting laboratory teaching, preferably in higher education
Experience training or mentoring others in laboratory procedures
Experience in modern laboratory techniques (e.g., cell culture, microbiology, microscopy and chemistry)
Assisting lab users in the compliance and understanding of safety rules and policies
What we can offer you
-------------------------
The opportunity to join a world-class university driving global impact through science and innovation.
A collaborative, inclusive and forward-thinking team environment.
Competitive pay, 39 days' annual leave (including public holidays), and a generous pension scheme.
Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.
