The role

We are currently recruiting for a Technology Curriculum Tutor to support the PGCE Programme at the OU, which offers two routes into teaching in Wales via an employment-based approach or through part time study.

The role holder will be part of the Secondary Curriculum Tutor team for the PGCE at the OU in Wales and will be responsible for student teaching and assessment across the Technology aspect of the Area of Learning and Experience in Science and Technology. Applicants may apply for a combined technology role or express an interest in a job share approach of 0.5FTE Computing and ICT or 0.5FTE Design and Technology. You will work closely with student teachers, School partners and others to ensure the quality and delivery of the programme pan-Wales via online distance education tuition.

The role will require some travel for work purposes throughout Wales, and occasional travel to Milton Keynes. This is a homeworking role, but you will be expected to travel to the Open University offices in Cardiff.

Skills and experience

  • A strong record of research and/or knowledge exchange that is commensurate to the position.
  • Extensive experience of secondary teaching in a relevant subject area and hold GTS
  • Strong knowledge of teacher education
  • Aware of and keen to participate actively in support student teachers to teach the Curriculum for Wales and other initiatives in teaching
  • An aptitude for being or becoming an inspiring online distance education teacher
