We are looking for a support worker to provide help and support to a male client with an acquired brain injury.
The client is 30 years old. He suffered his brain injury as a child following a road traffic accident. He has a great sense of humour and is very sporty and active. The assistance he requires is prompting with personal care and support/assistance within the household. He needs support accessing the various activities he enjoys in the community such as going to the gym, karate, cricket as well as going to events.
The client will occasionally require support workers to accompany him on holidays abroad.
You will be joining his already established team and reporting to his team leader and case manager.
Skills and Duties will include
:
Following the health and wellbeing plan as documented for the client.
Encouraging the client's independence as far as possible.
Working as part of a team and communicating appropriately with fellow team members.
Participation in procedures and approaches as specified for the client.
Ensuring that opportunity is given to participate in activities as identified by client, family, health, medical and social care team, while achieving a balance between work and rest for the client.
Delivering programmes of educational, social, and therapeutic development if required as directed by the relevant professionals.
Awareness of any significant changes in the client's health, functioning or behaviour, and informing the case manager and team leader as appropriate.
Awareness of the client's vulnerability and taking all reasonable precautions to protect it.
To provide the opportunity for the client to follow therapeutic guidelines if in place.
To take the client out to activities.
Qualifications and Experience Required
As a minimum, applicants will be expected to have some experience of caring for people with physical, behavioural, or learning disabilities.
NVQ level 2 in health and social care is desirable.
First Aid training will be required and applicants with a recent first aid qualification are desirable.
The ability to use IT systems, such as email, internet and electronic records is essential.
A clean full driving license is essential, as the support worker will be required to drive the client. Due to the requirement to drive the client to and from activities, applicants must be over the age of 21 years for insurance purposes.
Training, supervision, and support will be provided as required.
An enhanced DBS check is required for this post, and you will also be required to register with the DBS Update Service.
You will be employed directly by the client, however, SSCM oversees all aspects of the client's care package on his behalf.
Salary:
Weekdays: 17.37 per hour
Weekends: 19.89 per hour
Sleep shifts: 120.21
Schedule:
24-hour shifts 9am - 9am
