As a Tenancy Sustainment Officer, you will work to identify vulnerable people under the schemes and work with them to manage financial risk, and prevent financial stress, eviction and associated mental or physical health issues.
Your commitment will ensure that the highest quality standards are upheld, and that all essential documentation is thoroughly completed, helping displaced people to feel safe and be part of life in the UK.
Any given day can often feel quite different from the next! There will be some key responsibilities likely to feature in this role, including:
Engaging with local housing providers to build strong relationships and establish the provisions and support they and private landlords can offer as part of this comprehensive assessment.
Educating and collaborating with Housing Options staff to increase awareness and understanding of the client group and proactive care approaches, ensuring they identify residents who should be referred to the Teams for tailored support.
Identifying all available housing options across social, voluntary, and private sectors, and supporting the Teams in optimising their use.
Assisting assigned workers with clients accommodated under Section 21 of the National Assistance Act 1948 to ensure prompt and effective housing solutions, including the timely processing of relevant Housing Benefit claims.
Negotiating directly with landlords when complexities require a detailed understanding of housing law.
Coordinating with WSCC colleagues, specifically the People and Property Manager, Contracts Officer, Supported Housing, and Health, Housing, and Social Care Advisor (Coastal Area), to identify needs and develop services aligned with local housing priorities.
Providing briefings to Teams and housing provider partners to facilitate successful property acquisitions.
Offering guidance to Teams and housing organisations on how and when to alert health or social care colleagues about clients who are at risk or vulnerable and in need of support.

Required Qualifications and Skills
Demonstrate a strong understanding of housing law as it pertains to landlords and tenants.
Experience in reviewing and assessing tenancy agreements to ensure their appropriateness.
A proven ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines, juggle many different tasks, whilst having a good working knowledge of the housing environment.
Relevant advanced theoretical or organisational knowledge of systems, procedures, and policies within the specialist area, such as Housing or Social Care.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others' actions, negotiate solutions across various areas of the organisation.
Solution-focused with the ability to analyse complex situations and develop forward-thinking strategies and solutions that consider multiple options, while effectively balancing risks, resources, and desired outcomes.
Ability to collaborate effectively with housing providers, colleagues, and various external agencies to deliver optimal services, including the capability to lead, facilitate, and coordinate multi-agency meetings and strategic plans.
