Job Description

A fantastic opportunity to support Tesco in-store bakeries across the UK, as well as the Village Bakery NPD Team, by driving operational excellence, consistency, and high-quality bakery standards, with a specific focus on Sourdough. In this role, you'll coach and develop bakery colleagues to deliver outstanding products, improve productivity, and enhance the customer experience. Additionally, you'll support the Village Bakery teams in successfully delivering and executing new product launches in line with agreed timelines and quality standards.

You will also play a key role in reducing customer complaints and resolving issues that in-store teams are experiencing, by identifying root causes, addressing quality or process gaps, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly to protect customer trust and satisfaction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:



Coaching & Training



Role model the ISB Gold Coaching approach at all times and whenever interacting with store colleagues across all channels. Deliver practical, hands-on training to bakery colleagues in Tesco stores. Ability to visit multiple stores and conduct coaching conversations around quality, performance, and areas of opportunity. Support teams in developing baking skills, knowledge of products, and safe working practices. Help colleagues understand and apply Tesco standards and policies in bakery operations. Provide coaching on new product launches, processes, and equipment usage. Able to deliver 1-2-1 coaching or group coaching sessions to multiple store colleagues. Understand store operations, channels, and processes to deliver best-in-class colleague coaching and drive a positive customer experience. Quality & Standards



Ensure consistent product quality across stores. Work with store managers to implement action plans for improvement where required. Actively identify issues leading to customer complaints and work to implement solutions quickly and effectively. Clearly demonstrate KPI and quality improvements based on a defined store visit plan

Operational / Project Support:



Help improve / advise on bakery availability and waste management through effective planning. Troubleshoot sourdough specific operational issues in stores and recommend solutions. Able to analyse data to understand where to focus in terms of store visits and plan accordingly. Utilise Tesco supplier field team digital platforms to support with data capture and insight. Work closely with the Tesco Bakery Specialist and wider Tesco team on:
- Project development and delivery for both in-store equipment and new product launches.

- Development of store support materials.

- Problem-solving quality and performance opportunities, working in partnership with both Village Bakery and Tesco to land effective solutions.

- Supporting large quality events and presentations.

- Building relationships with the wider Tesco team including NPD (New Product Development), Technical, Business Support, and Commercial teams.

- Collaborating with the Tesco Bakery Specialist on product sign-offs and validations, including feeding back to the Village team on any opportunities or issues identified.

Support Village Bakery in fully understanding Tesco ISB operations and ensure that any product development aligns with current in-store processes.
- Support Village Bakery with new product bake validation work

- Support Village Bakery with New Product Development on Tesco Sourdough, scale up trials / bake loss trials and validation / packaging validation trials

- Support Village Bakery with Tesco Sourdough New Product launches and pre-production trials

- Support Village Bakery with all Tesco Sourdough development work where required.

Meet with the Tesco Bakery Specialist every two months to discuss strategy, store operations, and upcoming visits.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:



Background as a baker, bakery manager, or similar field-based bakery role. Experience in retail bakery operations (e.g. supermarkets or food retailers) would be desirable. Strong knowledge of artisan and traditional bakery processes. Hands-on experience with baking, mixing, proving, and finishing products. Excellent communication and coaching skills. Ability to motivate and inspire others. Comfortable working independently and managing a regional schedule. Self-driven and able to work alone or as part of a wider team. Strong organisational skills to plan store visits and training sessions. Competent in data analysis to identify focus areas and develop effective plans. Knowledge of food safety and hygiene legislation. Valid UK driving licence (role involves regional travel).

WORKING PATTERN / ENVIRONMENT:



Field-based role covering multiple Tesco stores across the UK, 3 days per week Support Village Bakery onsite in Wrexham 2 days per week Frequent travel required (company vehicle often provided) and overnight stays. Flexible working to meet store needs, including some early mornings or weekends during peak periods.
