Role Overview
As a Test and Commissioning Engineer at iST Power, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality assurance of our products within the factory and overseeing their successful installation and integration at customer sites. This vital role combines the hands-on factory testing of transformers and wound components with the critical responsibility of commissioning, performance validation, and fault-finding once the equipment is deployed. You must have a keen eye for detail and a strong electrical health & safety awareness.

Over potential testing
Insulation resistance testing
Copper & iron loss testing
High voltage flash testing
High voltage partial discharge testing
Supporting the Design Engineers in type testing of new products
Control of records & documents to ISO9001:2015 procedures & BS/customer specifications

Key Responsibilities
Factory Testing & Quality Assurance
Conduct routine and type testing of manufactured products to BS EN specifications and customer requirements.
Perform a variety of electrical tests, including Voltage ratio and transformer vector testing, Winding resistance testing, Copper & iron loss testing, High voltage partial discharge testing, and more.
Support the Design Engineers in type testing of new products.
Accurately complete test records and create FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) certification for supply to the end user.
On-Site Commissioning & Technical Support
Manage and execute the commissioning of transformers and associated systems at customer locations, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
Perform Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) and final performance validation.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues and faults both in the factory and on-site.
Liaise directly with customers, project managers, and technical teams during the commissioning phase, demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ensure all on-site work is conducted safely and in compliance with an appreciation of working safely in an HV test area and all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
Documentation & Compliance
Control of records and documents in compliance with ISO9001:2015 procedures, IEC and BS/customer specifications.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential
The ability to read electrical wiring diagrams and follow written test procedures.
A practical understanding of AC theory.
Use of electrical instrumentation and an appreciation of working safely in an HV test area.
Willingness to travel both nationally and internationally for commissioning projects.
Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
Ideally a minimum BTEC ONC/NVQ or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
A minimum of 2 years of electrical test experience in a production environment or previous field service/commissioning experience.
Knowledge of related disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, electrical transmission, and distribution.
Experience of routine and type testing to BS EN specifications, completion of test records and creating FAT/test certification for supply to the end user
Consistently punctual and maintains a professional appearance.
Desirable
Onsite work experience with customers
Experience adhering to DSR's, DNO, IDNO, and Transmission operator site safety rules
Site access qualifications including CSCS, EUSR, EFAW, and substation access
Ability to work independently
